Massive jungle changes are coming to League of Legends on patch 13.20.

There are five unique roles in League of Legends. However, none are as impactful as the jungle.

The jungle is a role that is entirely focused on roaming and gaining XP by farming jungle camps. A jungler can help all the lanes on the map. Because of it, they can change the tide of the battle in seconds. Due to this, the jungle has the highest solo pressure in the game.

However, at the same time, it is also the hardest role in the game. Additionally, just because of the pressure, most people avoid the role entirely.

To incentivize players to play the role, Riot has made countless changes to the role. And these changes added up to the point where the jungle ended up becoming the most influential and strongest role in the game. According to Riot, the jungle is 20% stronger than the rest of the role.

Since then, Riot has been adamant about balancing the role. And now Riot is finally nerfing jungle massively in patch 13.20.

League of Legends Patch 13.20: Jungle Changes

  • Smite can no longer be cast on minions and pets
  • Champion smite damage changed from 20 – 160 to 40 flat
  • AoE damage increased from 50% to 100%
  • No longer grants epic monster damage reduction
  • Mosstomper no longer grants tenacity and slow resist
  • Gustwalker brush MS reduced from 45% to 30%
  • Gustwalker monster kill MS reduced from 60% to 45%
  • Scorchclaw damage now has to be triggered from an attack or ability instead of any source of damage

Firstly, smite can no longer be cast on minions and pets from champions. However, it removes a lot of skill expression from champions like Lee Sin and Elise. Then smite damage was changed where instead of scaling, it will deal 40 flat damage to champions.

The only buff the smite received here is that AOE damage was increased. But at the same time, the epic monster damage reduction was removed.

Now let’s talk about specific Smites, Green Smite, or Mosstomper, which now doesn’t grant tenacity and slow resistance. It is a huge nerf and probably the biggest one it has received up to this point.

For blue smite, The overall movement speed was reduced. This change is understandable, as with Gustwalker, players could roam the map instantly.

Scorchclaw or red smite also received some changes. Instead of the passive damage triggering from any source of damage, it has to be triggered from an attack or ability. It is probably the most minor change in this entire list.

The player base agrees that these nerfs are too much. But for now, we have to wait and see how these updates play out in the live servers.

Release Date

The jungle changes will be added to the game on patch 13.20, scheduled to be released on Wednesday, October 11, 2023.
