As the 2023 League of Legends World Championship is on the horizon, Riot has announced the Worlds 2023 song, GODS.

Worlds is the biggest League of Legends event of all time. In it, the best players from all over the world compete against each other for the Summoner’s Cup. Additionally, it is also one of the most-watched League events of all time.

To both advertise and hype up the event, Riot Games does many things, like releasing in-game skins, various physical bundles, and, most importantly, releasing a Worlds song.

Since 2014, Riot has been releasing a song or anthem to hype up the League of Legends Worlds championship. The first Worlds we received was Warriors, by Imagine Dragons. This song was a huge success to the point where it is a tradition for Riot to release a new Worlds song every year.

Last year, with the Worlds 2022, we saw the release of Star Walkin’ by Lil Nas X. While a good song itself, it didn’t feel like a Worlds song as it didn’t have similar excitement as the prior Worlds song.

Now that Worlds 2023 is right around the corner, Riot has finally officially revealed the upcoming Worlds song, GODS. This time, they are partnering up with the popular K-pop group NewJeans.

In terms of story, the upcoming Worlds song will follow the story of Deft. He is the former DRX ADC main who helped DRX claim the world champion title. In this video, not only will we see the story of Deft, but we will also see the team who overcame all odds and became the world champions.

While NewJeans is not known for making hype songs similar to prior Worlds songs, it sounds promising from the teaser Riot showcased on their Twitter.

Release Date

GODS ft. NewJeans will premier on League of Legends’ official YouTube channel on October 3, 2023, at PM PST.
