Riot teases new hints about the new artistic mage mid-lane champion, Hwei

New champion release is always an occasion for League of Legends community to brainstorm wild theories. And when the developers themselves add to the party, it gets crazier. As you may have already gotten the news, the next in line for Riot’s new addition to the champion pool is an artistic mage named Hwei.

Not much is known about the champion’s abilities and in-game mechanics, nor do we have the proper splash art. But Riot has given us some hints as to what his theme will be in terms of lore. Hwei is going to be an artist champion who will color the rift with vibrant and bright colors. However, his somber and dark personality sharply contrasts his artistic style. Hwei’s lore will involve him going through the artistic journey of 3 phases, potentially hinting at his passive involving the same number.

That speculation regarding his passive is, well, still speculation. But very recently, Riot has revealed another piece of hint that supposedly enforces that.

In this article, let’s take a look at the recent developments in this matter.

The Rule of Thirds

Riot Emizery, the game designer who also worked on Milio, posted in the HweiMains subreddit a Wikipedia link that leads to ‘The Rule of Thirds‘ page. Also, on a side note, Yes. You read that right about the HweiMains subreddit being a thing already. Just goes to show how excited the community is for the new champion.

Now, onto the main topic. If you have a low attention span like me, let me give you a brief description of what the Rule of Third is in art and photography.

The Rule of Thirds is a basic principle of composition in photography, painting, and other visual arts. It suggests that the image should be divided into nine equal parts by two equally spaced horizontal lines and two equally spaced vertical lines, creating a 3×3 grid. The important elements of the image should be placed along these lines or at their intersections. This creates a more balanced and visually appealing composition.

With this information, people are speculating that Hwei’s passive may have something to do with his 3rd auto attack proc-ing his passive. That passive proc may have bonus effects in the form of utility or raw damage. Or it could simply be a gimmick on one ability to interact with others in a special way. Regardless of how it actually turns out, one thing is for certain. It’s going to be magnificent in artistic glory and spirit.

Hwei Release Date

Unfortunately, we do not have any specific date to look forward to. But we are likely to meet Hwei before 2024. However, it won’t be surprising if it gets delayed to 2024, as there are multiple precedents of that happening.
