You will find iron inside the caves in the Frostlands. The Frostlands refers to the ice biome in the game. Here, you will have to face the chilling temperatures, so consumables and charms are a must for survival.
Also, keep in mind that there will be a lot of high-level monsters, so you will need to bring your strongest weapons. If you want to clear everything in a cave at once, then bringing Building Materials will be a huge boost. Because this will allow you to reach the places for iron, you won’t be able to with your base character.
