Atsu’s quest for revenge in Ghost of Yōtei is to find and kill the Yōtei Six, six powerful bosses who ruined her life and family. Each member has their own way of fighting, their own favorite weapons, and their own way of expressing themselves. You can’t just use physical power to win these fights; you need to be able to adapt, read cues, take advantage of weaknesses, and time your counters correctly.
In this tutorial, I’ll go through each boss one by one and tell you how to deal with them, what weapons to use, what strategies work best, and how to stay alive in each suspenseful encounter. Use this as a guide to help you kill all six.
Boss-by-Boss Strategy: The Yōtei Six
Below is a breakdown of strategies, weaknesses, and tips for each of the six.
1. The Kitsune (Teshio Ridge)
Weapon/Style: Prefers nimble strikes, illusions, poison, and chain or kusarigama techniques.
Weakness: Spears (yari) often counter chain weapons, and openings after illusion attacks.
Tactics:
- Stay calm in fights with illusions. Distinguish real from fake before overcommitting.
- Use dodge/parry timing aggressively. Many of her attacks will telegraph with glints.
- Counter her poison or area attacks by retreating and repositioning. So, don’t let her control space.
- After she finishes a combo, strike during her recovery window with a yari or katana.
- Maintain distance when she tries to chain interrupt you.
When to fight first:
Many players take down The Kitsune early because her kusarigama rewards and relatively manageable aggression make her a good warm-up.
2. The Oni (Ishikari Plain)
Weapon/Style: Strong, melee attacker, often using heavier weapons or brute strikes.
Weakness: Vulnerable to heavy weapons or well-timed counters; sometimes staggerable.
Tactics:
- Don’t trade hits since he hits hard. Instead, use parry plus counter at the right timing.
- When he winds up with heavy attacks, back off and wait for the opening.
- Use Ōdachi (or heavy weapon) when he becomes vulnerable or staggered.
- Use the environment and cover if available, and avoid being cornered.
- Be ready for phase shifts: some of his aggression increases at mid-health.
3. The Saito Brothers (Tokachi Range)
Weapon/Style: Two opponents simultaneously; dual-weapon tactics; coordinating attacks.
Weakness: They individually have openings, so wait for the opportunity to exploit stagger.
Tactics:
- Try to separate them. So, don’t let them gang up on you.
- Use hit-and-run or interrupt combos when one is attacking.
- Weapon switching is vital. So, try to match their weapon types individually.
- Focus on staggering one, then finishing him before concentrating on the second.
- Use throwables or crowd-control tools to disrupt their synergy.
4. Lord Saitō (Old Fortress)
Weapon/Style: Master duelist, high speed, mixed weapons, unpredictable combos.
Weakness: Overcommitment, long recovery frames, or aggressive endgame desperation moves.
Tactics:
- Patience is key. Let him make the first move, then react.
- Exploit his mistakes and recovery windows, as it is when you land real damage.
- Watch for unblockable red attacks (must dodge) and spinning or disarm moves (yellow glint). So, you need to learn to read those moves.
- When health is low, his aggression skyrockets. So, don’t press too hard and wait for openings.
- Make sure your gear is top-tier before this fight.
Why many consider him the hardest:
He has everything: speed, damage, a mix of weaponry, and times when he is aggressive. You need to be an expert for the last duel.
5. The Spider
Weapon/Style: Agile, uses traps, webs, and ranged mixed with melee bursts.
Weakness: Slower trap deployment, cooldown windows, and vulnerabilities on transition phases.
Tactics:
- Keep mobile and don’t stay in web traps.
- Use ranged or mid-range attacks when she sets up traps.
- Time your parries when she pounces, and don’t overcommit near web zones.
- Use heavy attacks after you break through her defenses.
- Be patient and force her to reveal all her moves.
6. The Dragon
Weapon/Style: Balanced, versatile, can combine ranged, melee, flight, or aerial strikes.
Weakness: Aerial moves leave her vulnerable. And long cooldowns on powerful attacks.
Tactics:
- Stay flexible. Switch between melee and ranged depending on distance.
- Use parry or dodge during aerial descent attacks.
- Pressure her when she’s landing or recovering.
- Use mid-range weapons (like yari or kusarigama) when she tries to kite you.
- Watch for phases: in later health thresholds, she may adopt more aggressive aerial combo chains.
Suggested Order & Why It Helps
While it’s not strictly enforced, many players advocate for this order:
Kitsune -> Oni -> Saito Brothers -> Spider -> Dragon -> Lord Saitō
Here’s why:
- Early growth & reward pacing. Kitsune gives a kusarigama that’s useful early. Oni gives strong melee tools to handle heavier fights later.
- Skill ramping. You face easier/agile foes first before tackling dual or hybrid bosses.
- Gear scaling. By the time you reach the “harder” bosses, your gear and abilities are well up to the task.
That said, the game allows flexibility.
