Nevertheless, Hogwarts Legacy gives complete freedom to players to carve out their path and story and decide how the game progresses. Hence, this also means that you can learn the Unforgivable Curses and walk in the path of darkness and unlimited power.

There are three Unforgivable Curses in Hogwarts Legacy. Unlike other spells, you don’t learn them from school or classes. Furthermore, you need to complete a questline to learn them.

The quests are given to you by none other than Sebastian Sallow from House Slytherin, who you can make your companion. Sebastian Sallow is a user of the Unforgivable who turned to the Dark Arts to save his sister.

Although a heartfelt sacrifice, no one can be trusted with such powerful and destructive spells. Likewise, if you choose to learn this dark magic, your character’s alignment will significantly shift from good moral standing. Nevertheless, learning the Unforgivable Curses in Hogwarts Legacy will make you overpowered. Additionally, the quest line is interesting as it takes you deeper into the lore of House Slytherin and the world.

The Unforgivable Curses in Hogwarts Legacy are:

  • The Cruciatus Curse – Crucio
  • The Imperius Curse – Imperio
  • The Killing Curse – Avada Kedavra

How To Use Unforgivable Curses in Hogwarts Legacy

Cast Unforgivable Curses just like any other spells. Open the spell menu and select one of the Curse spells. Press the R2, RT, or similar keyboard button and one of the action buttons that you set to cast the spell.

Unlocking the Cruciatus Curse – Crucio in Hogwarts Legacy

Crucio is the first Unforgivable Curse you can learn in the game. Play through Sebastian Sallow’s quests, and once you level 16, you can play the ‘In the Shadow of the Study’ side quest to learn this spell. Moreover, you’ll also need to complete ‘The High Keep’ main quest. After learning the Crucio spell from the quest, wait till time passes, and you can use it.

You learn Crucio while trying to open a door in Slytherin’s Scriptorium.

Effect

Crucio, or the Torture Curses, curses targets with endless, painful torture till they break. In the game, affected targets become cursed and take immense huge damage over time. Attacking cursed enemies also inflict bonus damage.

This spell is exceptionally helpful in taking down enemies with large health and defences.

Unlocking the Imperius Curse – Imperio in Hogwarts Legacy

This brainwashing Curse is learned while doing the ‘In the Shadow of Time’ side quest given by Sebastian Sallow. Your character needs to be level 17 for this quest to appear via the owl. Moreover, you must complete a few main quests beyond ‘The High Keep’ until ‘Professor Weasley’s Assignment.’

You learn this Unforgivable Curse while facing Ominis when you and Sebastian explore the catacombs. You cast the curse on Oiminis. Like the first curse, wait for time to pass after completing the quest to make this spell usable from your arsenal.

Effect

Imperio is a very useful curse in the game; it allows you to mind-control targets, but you cannot control them on your own or give them various commands. Instead, cursed targets will join the fight on your side and aid you in battle.

Although not as fancy as the other Unforgivable Curses, this will be your saviour when surrounded by large groups of enemies. Imperio can also help you escape or make someone else fight while you do something else.

Unlocking the Killing Curse – Adava Kedavra in Hogwarts Legacy

Adava Kedavra is unlocked after completing the final side quest, ‘Shadow of the Relic’ in Sebastian Sallows’ quest line. To get this quest, first, complete the main quest, ‘Lodgok’s Loyalty,’ and level up your character to level 27.

You learn this spell from Sebastian himself while doing the quest.

Effect

The last Unforgivable Curse and also the strongest Curse you can learn in Hogwarts Legacy. Adava Kedavra is also considered the most sinister curse among the three within the wizarding world. This spell causes the target to die instantly and painlessly with a green flash.

One might think that this effect will be nerfed for balance in the game; Adava Kedavra in Hogwarts Legacy retains its insta-kill. Regardless of enemy level and type. Making this one of the strongest in the game and worthy of its unforgivable and criminal label.

However, the spell is balanced by its extremely long cooldown and casting time. The spell’s long casting time exposes you to a free enemy attack, so use it wisely.
