The National Team is a massively popular team comp in Genshin Impact. Here is everything you need to know about them.

Genshin Impact is an open-world action RPG by Chinese developer miHoYo. Genshin Impact takes place in the fictional world of Teyvat. The widely popular game was released in 2020 on every major gaming platform, including Android, iOS, Microsoft Windows, and Playstation.

The combat system in Genshin Impact is unique, and one of the most important factors in combat is elemental reactions. There are seven elemental types: Anemo, Geo, Electro, Dendro, Hydro, Pyro, and Cryo. You can create your party of four characters of different elemental visions and play the game however you seem to enjoy it.

But if you’ve been playing Genshin Impact for a while now, you must have already heard the term ‘National Team’ in the community. National Team is a popular team comp in Genshin Impact, created with the all-4-star team of Xiangling, Xingqiu, Bennett & Chongyun.

Here is everything we know about the popular National Team comp in Genshin Impact.

Origin of National Team

Genshin Impact community from China actually popularized the team comp. The team was originally referred to as “国家队,” pronounced “Guójiā duì,” which is where the phrase “National Team” comes from. The Xiangling, Xingqiu, Chongyun & Bennett team was called the “National Team” as a joke/slang.

Some people have claimed that “国家” (Guo Jia) from “国家队” is meant to stand for “Good Job.” Supposedly this is because the player is being told: “good job” for making such a powerful F2P team with only 4-stars. It’s more likely related to Bennett’s thumbs-up symbol, like telling someone “Good Job” and giving them a thumbs up.

Some might say it’s the Liyue national team because it has three powerful Liyue supports boosted by Bennett. Maybe it’s because Liyue resembles China in Genshin Impact, and this is the “National Team” that came from the Chinese playerbase; therefore, it’s the Chinese/Liyue national team.

National Team Build

The original National team comp comprises Xiangling, Xingqiu, Bennett, and Chongyun. This lineup features several of the game’s most powerful 4-star characters. This team comp is relatively easy to build compared to other team comps regarding artifacts and low resource cost. The goal of this team comp is to constantly trigger Melt, Vaporize, and Freeze reactions through the character’s elemental bursts and elemental skills.

Xiangling does most of the damage, while Xingqiu’s rainswords support the entire team. Bennett and Chongyun have powerful buffs and can clear out even the most challenging domains and floors in Spiral Abyss.

Xiangling is widely regarded as the strongest overall Pyro character as well as one of the strongest off-field damage dealers in the game. Due to her elemental burst that snapshots buffs, it has high AoE potential, low cooldown, and is easy to play mechanically.

Bennett is an irreplaceable character in any team composition in Genshin Impact. Bennett is arguably the best 4-star character in the game due to his unmatched support capability. His Elemental Burst, Fantastic Voyage, places a small field on the ground that grants the characters inside a lot of healing as well as a massive attack buff.

Xingqiu is another top-tier support character of this team and with good reason. His Skill provides a source of constant Hydro application to enemies as well as damage mitigation to the active member of your team, regardless of who’s on the field. His Burst combos well with other members because it provides Hydro debuffs and extensive damage to a single enemy hit, allowing Xinagling’s Pyronado to Vaporize it.

Chongyun is an important member of this team because of his high damage Cryo Skill and Burst. Having a Cryo unit on the field increases attack speed for team members because they are all melee weapon users. His Burst provides several instances of Cryo debuffs and high damage, allowing you a few opportunities to Melt and Freeze enemies.

The team’s primary elemental reactions of Vaporize and Melt are all about increasing damage. For low-level accounts, these elemental reactions help you take down more formidable opponents, even in the Spiral Abyss. While the National Team is pretty strong, there are some drawbacks. The only weakness of the Genshin National Team is its range. Without any Bow or Catalyst users, players must be closer to enemies, and you need to be faster with dodging enemy attacks.

Variations of National Teams

While the original Genshin National Team is around a lot, players have come up with different team comps of the National team with other characters.

One of the trending team compositions used in the Spiral Abyss is the “Raiden National,” which replaces Chongyun with Raiden Shogun. While this team comp removes Melt reactions, Raiden Shogun acts as a DPS in this team because of her powerful kit.

After the release of Kamisato Ayato in Genshin Impact v2.6, he became a 5-star replacement for Xingqiu. While both characters have similar Hydro abilities, Ayato is far more powerful as a unit than Xingqiu, with better damage scaling and a longer elemental burst.

Different team comps in Genshin Impact offer various options for players to consider. With National teams, clearing the Spiral Abyss can be easier than ever if players can properly utilize and gear up their characters. Players should give this cheap but massively overpowered team comp a try.
