In this article, we look at one such choice of choosing to keep your resources or the peace, when Wanderers ask for your oil. We’ll look at each choice you can make in this dilemma and their consequences.
In a cold, harsh, and unforgiving world, you’ll need to make tough decisions to ensure tactful resource management. Managing resources is not only about finding, producing, or investing, but also about keeping several factions and your population happy.
Using resources to keep your population thriving might lead to growing fervor from a certain faction, and in some cases from the general populace itself. Conversely, trying to keep your population and all factions happy might lead to the downfall of your settlement.
Moreover, some decisions regarding resources might lead to violent clashes, resulting in casualties. In a world already torn apart by a freezing climate, it is important to keep conflicts between the people to a minimum, and you’ll often need to give away resources to remain a pacifist.

Deliver Oil or Turn the Wanderers Down
These choices will appear after 300 weeks, usually around or on week 330. After you take over the Old Dreadnought and turn it into the main source of Oil for New London, an Intruder Event occurs.
Wanderers appear at your doorstep and claim that you have desecrated a sacred site. They demand some of the Oil that you’re extracting from the Old Dreadnought within 42 weeks, otherwise, they will raid the outpost to take whatever Oil you have.
There are two choices you can make here:
You can give them the oil they asked for, which will be either 30K Oil or 24K Oil, depending on whether or not you removed the dead Wanderer bodies when colonising the Old Dreadnought. This is a peaceful option, and you won’t have to fight the Wanderers, preventing any chance of casualties. However, giving up this much Oil will make it harder to gather enough Oil to survive the upcoming whiteout.
Your second option is to turn them down. In this route, you will need to defend the Old Dreadnought from a Wanderer raid. You’ll need at least 12 guard squads, or if you haven’t removed the dead bodies, you can defend the outpost with 8 guard squads. This route might result in casualties and some of your population will be unhappy that you resorted to violence instead of helping fellow survivors.
If you have enough Oil reserves, it’s a good idea to just give the Wanderers what they asked for.
However, this early on in the game, you probably will not have enough Oil to justify giving away. Thus, we recommend fighting off the Wanderer raid and setting up Watchtowers around the Old Dreadnought.
