Everything you need to know about reducing Disease and keeping your population healthy in Frostpunk 2.
Frostpunk 2 is a survival game as much as it is a city builder. While leading your settlement, you must make sure to keep your population healthy, as your people are your main workforce and drivers of your economy.
While maximizing your resource output and production efficiency is important, you must balance it while keeping your citizens’ well-being in mind. For example, too many factories will lead to pollution, especially having Industrial Districts next to Housing, thus leading to Squalor and Disease.
Disease can also come from a lack of food, as well as overworking your people. Thus, it is essential to be able to minimize disease, as a diseased population will also lead to a smaller effective workforce, thus damaging your economy and resource output, which in turn will lead to more Disease and other problems.
In this article, we look at what Disease is in Frostpunk 2, what causes it, and how you can prevent it.

What is Disease
Disease can come from a lack of food and heat and reduces your workforce while causing significant damage to your economy and population. Furthermore, Emergency Shifts and an excess number of Factories can also cause disease.
Moreover, Disease can quickly spread throughout the city, so you should make sure to prevent it and fix the problem as soon as possible if it comes up.
How to Reduce Disease
Cold, Hunger, and Squalor
To prevent disease, you need to make sure the basic needs of your population are met.
Cold, Hunger, and Squalor are the three primary factors that determine the health and growth of your population.
Problem | Causes | How to Prevent |
---|---|---|
Cold | – Not enough Shelter for the Population – Not enough Fuel for Generator to produce Heat. | – Build or expand Housing Districts – Produce enough Oil for Generator to process – Research Ideas that Reduce Heat Demand |
Hunger | – Not enough Food to meet Population’s demand. | – Increase Food Production – Have enough Food Stockpiles to meet demand during Whiteouts. |
Squalor | – Not enough Materials to meet demand – Industrial Districts next to Housing Districts | – Build extraction districts over Material tiles such as Forests and Iron Deposits – Construct buildings that increase Material output, such as Foundries – Research and Build Filtration Towers and Waste Management Facilities |
Hospitals and Pharmaceuticals
There are several buildings you can research and construct to reduce disease.
You can build Teaching Hospitals, Recovery Hospitals, and Hospitals in Expanded Housing Districts.
You can build Pharmaceutical Testing Laboratories, Pharmaceutical Laboratories, and Panaceum Factories in Industrial Districts.
All of these buildings can be researched under the Society section in the Idea Tree.
You can also build Emergency Medical Hubs within three tiles of a Housing District to decrease Disease there. This Hub can be researched under the Hubs section in the Idea Tree.
Contagion Prevention Laws
Starting from Chapter 1, you’ll gain access to the Contagion Prevention category in the Council Hall. Here, you’ll be able to pass laws that prevent Disease. These laws are:
- Contagion Prevention: Supported Quarantine
- Contagion Prevention: Infectious Badge
- Funerals: Harvesting Funerals
- Treatment: Experimental Treatment
- Treatment: Conservative Treatment
- Procreation: Birthing Programme
District Placement
Placing Food Districts next to other districts, except Housing Districts, can also increase disease. Keep this in mind while planning and constructing your city.
Frostland
While exploring the Frostland, you might discover a point of interest, building an Outpost on which while reduce Disease in your city.
