The current VCT winner, Evil Geniuses, almost managed to sell their spot to FlyQuest.

The VALORANT Champions Tour, or VCT, is the official e-sports scenario for VALORANT. Since 2023, Riot Games has divided the scene into three regions and partnered with teams for a league-based competitive system. Starting in 2024, China will join the region list as the fourth member.

All of these teams take part in their regional events in order to qualify for the global events. The season eventually concludes with one team crowning the winner at the final event, the Champions. Evil Geniuses will start the 2024 season as the defending champions. They were crowned victorious in the last VCT 2023 Champions event held in Los Angeles.

The players of Evil Geniuses have been the talk of the town since their unexpected performance in Masters Tokyo, where they missed the title and just lacked behind the mighty Fnatic. Unfortunately, Evil Genius as an organization has gained more attention for some controversies after the Champions event, so much so they were almost selling their VCT spot.

Evil Geniuses is the first team from the Americas region to win the Champions trophy. As a newly formed team, their performance was quite surprising to many. However, the org has been noted negatively due to their controversies regarding player’s contracts. The organization has been reportedly trying to downsize since its exit from LCS. Now, a recent report by Alejandro “Anonimotum” Gomis shows that they were also looking to sell their VCT spot to FlyQuest, which Riot intervened.

FlyQuest’s previous attempt to enter VCT by acquiring the Americas Ascension winner ‘The Guard’ roaster was a failure. However, this time, they hoped to reach success as the negotiations spanned several months. Both parties were hopeful for Riot’s approval, especially since Riot had previously allowed players from The Guard, who exited e-sports, to sign with G2. Anyhow, the deal didn’t go as planned due to Riot’s decision to step in and halt the agreement.

VCT teams are not franchised, rather, they are partnered with Riot by a four-year contract. Therefore, the slots are not theirs to sell. With Riot’s interruption, Evil Geniuses now have to take part in the VCT 2024. However, this will be with a completely new roster, as four players from the Champions winning roster have already left the organization.
