Episode Battle

Episode Battle is the single-player, story mode. Here you will relive fan-favorite battles from Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super. It seems, that this mode will be shorter than the ones in Budokai Tenkaichi games.
However, Episode Battle changes things up a bit by adding first-person cutscenes for immersion, and also branching paths to alter the story, thus providing a look into a different, what-if plot for Goku and his friends. You can play as Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, Future Trunks, Frieze, Goku Black, and Jiren.
Custom Battle

Starting with Bonus Battle, this game mode in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, lets you play out original fight scenes with different win conditions or actions that would trigger cutscenes mid-fight. Adding some challenge to the battles.
Another mode in Custom Battle is the Edit Mode. By far, one of the best game modes to Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero. Using Edit Mode, you can create your own explosive fights like a real episode from the anime, record them, and upload them for others to play through. You can choose any characters, edit camera angles, expressions, poses, add dialogue, add background music, change stats, and use title screens. Your imagination is the limit here.
Battle Mode

In this mode, you can play online against other players casually, or join tournaments. Moreover, you can also enjoy local split-screen 1v1 for the best Dragon Ball experience. The local co-op was added after a lot of negative reception from fans due to the initial removal.
It seems the game would struggle to run well on split-screen. Local multiplayer can only be played in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber map because of its simplicity. Two players cannot choose characters at the same time as well.
Ranked Match
Your usual ranked match mode. Play with your favorite Z fighters and climb to the top of the global leaderboards. Become the best.
A Budokai Tenkaichi-style fighting game with ranked is what we have all been waiting for.
Tournament Mode

Similar to the popular Tournament Mode in earlier games, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero changes it a little by introducing online tournament modes, and custom tournaments.
Each tournament mode has its own style and signature elements that you have to find out. One of the popular ones is the out-of-bounds condition in the World Tournament.
The types of Tournament are:
- World Tournament
- Cell Games
- Other World Tournament
- Tournament of Destroyers
- Tournament of Power
- Yamcha Games
