Star Wars Outlaws’ ending is one full of twists and turns and brings to light the motivations of several important characters.
*WARNING*: SPOILERS AHEAD (obviously)
The ending sees Kay and her crew finally pull off the heist that the game was building up to and its aftermath.
While the game is more focused on the criminal underbelly of the Star Wars universe, the ending reveals a more sinister driver behind the character’s actions, namely the Empire.
Furthermore, it brings the tension between Kay Vess and Riko, her estranged mother, to a boiling point. It also answers a lot of questions set up during the game, such as Zerek Besh’s meteoric rise to power.
In this article, we’ll look at the ending of the story, and explain the events that take place.
Quick Recap of the Story
To understand the motivations of the characters and where everything is set, let us take a very quick and condensed look at the story so far
Star Wars Outlaws begins with Kay Vess and her trusty Meerqal companion, Nix, who are living in the casino city of Canto Bight on the planet Cantonica.
Kay has spent her entire life in Canto Bight after her mother abandoned her there as a child. Kay plans to escape Canto and start a new life by stealing an identicard from a club run by the Sixth Kin, a criminal organization.
However, the theft goes wrong, and she is detected. Now hunted by the Sixth Kin, Kay’s foster father, Bram, sets her up with a job, hoping it will help her escape Canto. The job is a heist targeting Sliro, the head of the Zerek Besh.
However, Kay discovers that heist was a setup and was in fact a rescue mission for a captured rebel named Asara.
The rebels leave Kay for dead and she is captured by Sliro.
Kay manages to escape with the help of Nix and uses the Trailblazer, Sliro’s ship, to escape to Toshara where she crash lands.
Kay allies herself with Waka, an engineer, and a bounty hunter named Vail. With the help of Jaylen and ND-5, Kay manages to assemble a crew, which includes her mother Riko, to pull off a massive heist in her quest for freedom.
Ending Explained
Sliro’s Secret
The first reveal in the final act is that Sliro is an undercover agent of the Empire, and that his crime syndicate, the Zerek Besh, is a front for the Empire to uncover and turn in Rebel soldiers.
This reveal explains several things, mainly why the captured Rebel, Asara, was in Sliro’s vault, and why Zerek Besh soldiers had such high tech equipment and were so well trained. Sliro’s wealth and resources all came from the Empire.
We learn this during the mission where you need to board an Imperial ship to steal Sliro’s access codes. During this, Kay accidentally stumbles upon a conversation between Darth Vader and Sliro.
During this conversation, Darth Vader informs Sliro that he is on thin ice as he is not bringing in enough Rebels despite substantial investment from the Empire.
Also, during this scene, we learn that Kay has no idea who Darth Vader is. This is because Darth Vader is a boogeyman-like figure. He only shows up to crush those who oppose the Empire, and as such, most who see him in person, end up dead. Thus, he is mythlike, and those not involved with the Galactic War are not familiar with him.
Jaylen’s Betrayal
Kay and her crew, Nix, Jaylen, ND-5, Asara, and Riko finally complete the Heist that the game has been building up to since the very beginning. They rob the loot from Sliro’s vault and set off for Cantina in the Trailblazer.
However, after Riko cracks open the boxes, instead of unmarked Beskar, she finds a codex.
Jaylen explains that the codex contains sensitive information about the Empire and its agents. This is where Kay realizes that she got got. Jaylen, since the beginning, was not interested in credits. What he wanted instead, was to usurp Sliro as the head of the Zerek Besh.
He plans to do this by handing over the codex to the Empire and swearing his loyalty.
Moreover, he also plans to hand over Asara to the Empire and reveal to them the location of the Rebel base on Akiva. Thus, he’ll prove that he will deliver where Sliro has failed to.
It is also revealed that Riko, Kay’s mother, was in on this plan along. Though she will not let any harm come to Kay, she is willing to betray her for the score.
Riko tries to get Kay to accept Jaylen’s terms. She refuses, however, and Jaylen activates ND-5’s restraining bolt. This makes ND-5 follow Jaylen’s orders and ND-5 knocks out Kay.
Jaylen then takes the codex and Asara to an Imperial Star Destroyer known as The Revelator.
Jaylen and Sliro
In the final mission, The Revelator, Jaylen is successful in usurping Sliro. Here, we also learn why Jaylen hates Sliro.
Jaylen and Sliro are brothers and were born into a wealthy family that owned Star Destroyer factories. Jaylen was being positioned as the heir to his father’s company and Sliro was jealous of both this and Jaylen’s relationship with their father.
Sliro reported his father’s company to the Empire, claiming that they were plotting against them. The Vrax family were killed mercilessly, but Jaylen managed to survive.
After Vader accepts Jaylen’s deal and appoints him as Zerek Besh’s head, Jaylen orders ND-5 to shoot Sliro.
Freedom
After a tense stealth/chase sequence, Kay manages to override ND-5’s restraining bolt using the freedom spike that Gedeek develops earlier in the game. ND-5 then kills Jaylen to save Kay and Asara.
Afterward, Kay and the rest of the crew (barring Riko and Jaylen), board the Trailblazer to escape the Revelator.
Before they jump into hyperspace, however, Asara calls the Rebels on Akiva to escape, as the Revelator is on their way to destroy them.
Kay decides to stop running away from her problems and destroy the Revelator. Kay calls for help during this and the Rebels and whichever faction you have the highest reputation with shows up to help. The faction that shows up to help wants the codex in exchange.
Epilogue
After the battle with the Revelator, the Trailblazer jumps to hyperspace and the next scene is at the Broken Hoof, Bram’s bar, where Kay and her crew are talking. During the epilogue, we see each of the remaining heist crew member’s fates.
Asara tries to convince Kay to join the Rebel alliance. But Kay tells him that she’s done working for someone else and wishes him luck.
Ank decides to retire and Gedeek goes back to his scoundrel, claiming he has an in at the casinos, which will allow him to blow up safes to score cash. Gedeek also offers this opportunity to Kay and Ank. Ank seems interested, but Kay refuses, saying she’ll have their backs when they inevitably mess up.
After this, Bram tells Kay that she’s always welcome back here and that she can have her room as long as she needs it.
While Kay makes her way to the Trailblazer, she meets Vail. Vail was thought to have been killed during the heist but is revealed to have survived. Kay gives Vail the codex, which she told the Syndicate that helped her was destroyed, and tells her to start her own syndicate. Vail asks Kay to join her but she refuses.
Kay is finally free, which is what she wanted since the opening act of the game, and now she, along with Nix and ND-5, is free to explore the galaxy in search of scores, riches, and bounties.
Riko
During a mid-credits scene, it is revealed that Jaylen betrayed Riko as well, giving her marked credits.
Kay sneaks into an Imperial Base, disguised as an officer, where Riko is being held captive and has a heart to heart with her.
She tells Riko that she knows that the poker chip she gave her as a child was a tracking device and that Riko was looking out for her all this time. Kay also manages to pass Riko a key to escape her captivity.
