A Bungie job posting mentioning Destiny 2 gave players fresh hope that the studio was hiring for the game again. The job post online showed a contract design role specifically focused on player interactions within Destiny 2.

However, the listing has since changed. Both Bungieโ€™s careers page and PlayStationโ€™s version now identify Marathon as the project, weakening the original hiring claim.

In brief:

  • An earlier version of a Bungie job listing explicitly mentioned Destiny 2.
  • The opening is for a remote Senior UX Designer on a contract basis.
  • The live listing now names Marathon, so it cannot confirm renewed Destiny 2 recruitment.
  • Bungie has separately confirmed plans to restore vaulted Destiny 2 content.

Bungieโ€™s Job Posting Originally Mentioned Destiny 2

The posting shows an opening titled Senior UX Designer (CONTRACT), with the description identifying the position as an Interaction Designer. It advertises remote work within the United States and directly references designing player interactions for Destiny 2.

The same Destiny 2 wording was shared in a community discussion linking to PlayStationโ€™s careers website, prompting speculation about what Bungie might be planning.

The responsibilities cover user experience design, including player interviews, playtesting, mockups, prototypes, and design documentation. These duties suggest work on how players navigate and interact with a game, but reveal little about the scale of the project.

The Updated Listing Now Points to Marathon

The current job description replaces the Destiny 2 reference with Marathon. That change appears on both official careers pages the last time we checked.

The reason for the earlier wording remains unclear. An outdated template is one possible explanation, but that has not been established by the listing itself.

As of writing, this particular opening provides insufficient evidence that Bungie has restarted Destiny 2 hiring. It also offers no basis for announcing a new expansion, a return to regular seasonal releases, or Destiny 3.

The excitement comes after a difficult stretch for the franchise. We previously covered Bungieโ€™s announcement that Destiny 2โ€™s active development would conclude with its June 9 update, while the game remained playable.

The studio has also faced substantial workforce reductions. In September, Bungie was seeking to sublease its roughly 211,000-square-foot Bellevue headquarters following multiple rounds of layoffs.

Against that background, an opening explicitly naming Destiny 2 was bound to attract attention.

Bungie Has Confirmed Destiny 2 Unvaulting Work

There is still concrete development for Guardians to follow. In its September studio update, Bungie confirmed that work was beginning to restore vaulted campaigns, destinations, and raids.

The studio explained that older content needs changes to lighting, encounters, enemies, and underlying systems before it can return. It promised further details in the coming months, without providing a release schedule.

That restoration commitment remains the clearest evidence of Bungieโ€™s immediate plans for Destiny 2. The circulating job posting, with its wording now changed, cannot establish how the studio is staffing that effort.
