Slide canceling has been removed from MW2. However, OpTic Shotzzy has found a way to slide cancel in the game. Here’s how to slide cancel in the open beta of MW2.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) revolutionized CoD with its revamped movement and gameplay mechanics. One of the most controversial mechanics that came out of the game is the slide-canceling. Slide-cancelling divided the community in half, with most players leaning towards the gameplay mechanic.
However, to everyone’s surprise, Infinity Ward has removed slide canceling from MW2. Although sliding is still there, players must commit to the slide instead of getting up mid-movement. The cutting of slide-canceling diminishes the whole “smoothment” meta.
Players have been upset about the removal of slide canceling from the game. Fortunately, OpTic Shotzzy has found a way around the sliding mechanic and figured out a way to slide cancel in the game.

How to Slide Cancel in Modern Warfare 2
In MW (2019), slide canceling was easy as players would have to spam crouch and jump. However, in MW2, as soon as players press crouch, they have to commit to the slide. Shotzzy, on the other hand, has found a way around it, here’s how it works:
- While sprinting, press slide.
- As soon as the slide animation begins, keep spamming ADS.
- Lastly, press jump while ADS-ing.
The community was divided with their stance on no slide canceling in MW2. Many content creators and players applaud the change as it enforces a less sweaty playstyle. Moreover, Shotzzy’s reinvention of the mechanic has brought him mixed reactions. CouRageJD was unhappy with Shotzzy’s new take on the much-debated movement mechanic.
While the movement won’t be smooth enough like MW (2019), it is still a workaround to bring back the “smoothment.” Another content creator, Bluex has also uploaded a video better explaining the movement mechanic.
