ARC Raiders is about to give players a much bigger reason to stay topside. Embark Studios has revealed more details about the upcoming Outpost system, a major new progression feature that will allow Raiders to take over parts of the surface and establish a semi-permanent residence.
The new system is part of the massive Frozen Trail update arriving on October 8, 2026, which Embark describes as the game’s biggest update since launch.

ARC Raiders Outposts Will Let Players Build on the Surface
Speaking with GamesBeat, ARC Raiders Executive Producer Aleksander Grøndal explained that the Outpost system represents Raiders beginning to reclaim parts of the surface rather than simply venturing topside to loot and extract.
“There’s a new outpost system, which is where the raiders take over parts of the surface and establish some kind of semi-permanent residence,” Grøndal said.
More importantly, these Outposts will not simply act as static bases. Players will be able to customize and furnish their space, set up crafting stations, and gradually build something that feels like their own.
According to Grøndal, Embark wants the feature to offer more opportunities for player expression.
Outposts Could Become a Major Part of ARC Raiders Progression
Embark has also confirmed that the Outpost will play into the game’s broader progression systems. The studio says players will be able to decorate their Outpost, research new elements of the world, and begin taking their first steps toward reclaiming the surface.
Until now, Raiders have largely operated from the safety of their underground home before heading topside for individual runs. Establishing a persistent presence above ground could make progression feel much more tangible.
Frozen Trail Is Shaping Up to Be ARC Raiders’ Biggest Update Yet
The Outpost system is only one piece of Frozen Trail. The update will also introduce a large frozen map, new ARC enemies, a new high-level ARC Operation, Skill Tree changes, Raider Deck improvements, weapons, gadgets, and additional customization options.
