Apex Legends recently increased the price for 1000 Apex coins in the store. Compared to the newly added 500 coins bundle, it seems like a genius Strategy disguised as a pure scam.

Since Apex Legends is a free-to-play FPS battle royale game set in the same universe as the Titanfall franchise of video games, Respawn Entertainment opted to use the “freemium” model to monetize this game. Consequently, players don’t have to purchase the game to enter the lobbies.

Instead, players can purchase cosmetic items such as Skins, Battle Passes, Trackers, Banners, Emotes, and more to customize their play session in Apex Legends. Furthermore, players can also buy loot boxes called Apex Packs that provide players with three random items.

You can unlock specific cosmetic items using Crafting Materials or Legend Tokens. However, in most cases, you need to use real money and buy Apex Coins to purchase Special Bundles, Battle Pass, Special Offers skins, and more.

The 1000 Apex Coins has been a popular choice for many as it doesn’t require you to empty your wallet. With 1000 Apex Coins, you can buy a Premium Battle Pass or 10 Apex Packs. However, Respawn has increased the price for this popular Apex Coins option in the store, which seemed very peculiar and definitely for a good reason.

1000 Apex Coins Bundle: Genius or Scam?

As mentioned earlier, Apex Legends 1000 Apex Coins option is a popular choice for most players. For $9.99, players could buy a Premium Battle Pass or 10 Apex Coins, so it made sense. However, recently players noticed a surprising change with the 1000 Apex Packs in the store.

Instead of $9.99, the 1000 Apex Coins bundle now costs $11.29, which is not even the shocking part. Respawn recently added a 500 Apex Coins option in the store for $4.99, so the price change in 1000 Coins makes no sense.

Theoretically, the 1000 Apex Coins should cost less than the 500 Apex Coins option. So this seems like a simple scam or a bug from the game’s end. But, is it? Most players think it’s a genius marketing trick. A comment from German-German555 perfectly explains what this is all about.

Once you think about it, it starts to make sense. Because of the higher 1000 Apex Coins price, people will now buy more 500 Apex Coins, eventually benefiting EA. It gives people a false sense of security. However, no one is losing ultimately, as players are paying the same amount to purchase the Coins.
