Apex Legends is a popular battle royale game based in the same universe as the Titanfall franchise. And following its official debut back in 2019, this shooter made a name for itself in the battle royale market.

Truly polished FPS mechanics paired with intuitive UI elements made this title stand out from the sea of other games in the same genre. Also, Respawn popularized contextual pinging systems and respawning teammates in this genre of games.

Aside from the pinging systems and hero shooter elements, Respawn also brought new innovations to this specific genre of games. For example, the Knockdown Shield is definitely one of them.

In other battle royales, if you get downed, you become an easy target for your opponents. Whereas in Apex, you get knockdown shields that provide cover when you are down so that your teammates can come to get you back into action.

At its very core, Apex Legends is a squad-based shooter. As such, this addition to the game made a lot of sense when it was first introduced in the game alongside the official launch. However, as more time went by, players soon realized that knockdown shields are a hassle to deal with in competitive lobbies as it can be difficult to finish a downed opponent with a golden knockdown shield.

Does Knockdown Shield Need a Nerf?

Popular Apex Legends streamer Nokokopuffs thinks that Respawn should make some tweaks to the knock-down shields. According to Nokokopuffs, knockdown shields clearly need a nerf.

“Instead of the knockdown being deployed immediately when activated, it starts off really small and grows bigger to become the full knockdown shield that we have now,”, Nokokopuffs says on how to balance the knockdown shields.

This change will eliminate the issue where some downed players spam the shields. The knockdown shield debate is currently pretty divisive among the Apex Legends player base. While many believe it is a necessary part of the game, there are some outliers who think that knockdown shields need a little rework to be more balanced.
