Apex Legends Ranked may be getting one of its biggest competitive matchmaking changes yet, especially for players grinding near the very top of the ladder. According to reliable Apex leaker HYPERMYST, Respawn is testing a โsolo-onlyโ queue system for Diamond, Masters, and Apex Predator players in the Ranked Ladder, with party queueing disabled at the highest ranks.
While Respawn has not officially announced this change yet, the idea is already sparking a major debate in the Apex community. Solo queue players have argued that climbing through Diamond and beyond feels brutal when they are matched against coordinated three-stacks. If this test makes it into the live game, the top-ranked Ranked Ladder could become a much more individual-focused competitive experience.
Apex Legends Could Disable Party Queueing at Top Ranks
The reported change would affect Diamond, Masters, and Apex Predator players in the Ranked Ladder. In simple terms, players at these ranks would have to queue alone instead of entering matches with a premade squad.
Apex is built around squad coordination, legend synergy, rotations, comms, and team fights. But at the same time, solo queue players often feel they are playing a completely different game compared to full premade teams.
Currently, Apex Legends Ranked allows players to queue solo or with a party, and Apex Predator remains the highest competitive title, given to the top 750 Master players per platform.
Solo-Only Ranked Could Be a Huge
The biggest argument in favor of solo-only top-rank queueing is fairness. A solo Diamond player being placed against a coordinated three-stack of Masters or Predator players can feel almost impossible, especially when the other team has clear comms, planned rotations, and better fight coordination.
If party queueing is disabled for top ranks, every player in those lobbies would have to deal with the same matchmaking conditions. That means no premade advantage, no stacked comms advantage, and no full squad farming lobbies with practiced team chemistry.
It would also make Ranked Ladder performance feel more personal. Instead of judging how good a trio is, the system would better test how well individual players can adapt, communicate with random teammates, survive bad situations, and make smart decisions under pressure.
This Could Help Solo Queue Players Finally Feel Heard
Solo queue Ranked has been one of the most frustrating parts of Apex Legends for a long time. Many players love the competitive grind, but the experience can become exhausting when random teammates are matched against fully coordinated squads.
A solo-only queue for Diamond and above could make the climb feel less punishing. It would not magically fix every problem in Ranked, but it could remove one of the biggest complaints from high-skill players who do not always have a full team available.
Apex Ranked Ladder Is Already a More Competitive Format
Ranked Ladders are separate competitive windows tied to Ranked, with Respawn recently listing multiple ladder periods for Apex Legends Season 29 Overclocked, starting with Ranked Ladder 1 from May 14 to May 17, 2026.
Because Ranked Ladder is built around performance and leaderboard placement, Respawn may be looking for ways to make that environment feel more competitive and less dependent on premade squad advantage. If the goal is to identify the best individual performers, solo-only queueing at the highest ranks would make sense.
This should still be treated as a reported test rather than a confirmed live change. HYPERMYST has shared the claim, but Respawn has not officially posted patch notes or an announcement saying solo-only queueing is coming to Diamond, Masters, or Predator Ranked Ladder.
