Matheus “Budega” Figueiredo, the head coach of XSET’s Rainbow Six Siege team, has been suspended for a year for engaging in “major misconduct” against the members of Team Liquid.
The Six Charlotte Major saw eight teams from the four groups advance to the playoffs and XSET was one of them. The Brazilian coach of ‘Budega’ was excited to stand in front of the crowd, but that dream has been put on a hold now.
Just before the playoffs, Ubisoft announced that Budega had been banned for breaching the rulebook and a $5,000 fine has been handed against XSET.
While the exact misconduct might not be confirmed, Team Liquid’s manager, André “Sensi” Kaneyasu claimed it was due to him shouting a homophobic slur. According to Ubisoft’s rulebook, a few examples of ‘Major misconduct’ includes harassment, deliberate intimidation, offensive language related to gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, and more.
Budega initially tweeted out stating he didn’t get a chance to defend himself and called Liquid’s behavior “childish actions”. But later today, he released a statement, apologizing for his harsh actions and understanding his mistakes.
With XSET now being eliminated from the quarter-finals of the Six Charlotte Major, the future of the team is still unclear, as they might look for a new coach in the future.
