With an abundance of features, it’s difficult to keep track of how everything works. So, it could be that you have no idea what Collectopaedia cards are and what they do. That’s why, in this guide, we will break down everything you need to know about Collectopaedia Cards and how they can be used to increase Affinity and XP rewards.
What are Collectopaedia Cards in Xenoblade Chronicles 3?
Like most RPGs, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 has its fair share of fetch-quests. It’s when you bump into a quest-giving NPC, and they ask you to bring them various items. However, the painstaking chore of such fetch-quests involves returning to the NPC’s location just to give them the item. This is where Collectopaedia Cards come to your rescue.
When you interact with a quest-giving NPC, the Collectopaedia card for that character will be automatically added to your Collectopaedia tab, which can then be accessed through your Quest menu. It keeps track of the items that are needed to be fetched and allows you to report to your quest-giver without having to return to their location. But that’s not all! Registering your collectibles from time to time will yield you plenty of XP bonuses and raise colony Affinity level.
How to Raise Affinity and XP using Collectopaedia Cards
As you traverse the large open-world map of Aionios, you will come across multiple human settlements known as Colonies. Affinity in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 functions similarly to EXP but helps level up these different Colonies. When you visit such human settlements, you’ll meet various characters who will give you side-quests. Completing them raises your Colony’s affinity level.
That said, the fastest way to raise your Affinity level is by collecting and registering all the Collectopaedia Cards you come across in a Colony. It is not uncommon for players to completely forget about registering their Collectopaedia cards once they’ve completed a single fetch-quest from an NPC.
Instead of one-time quests, these Collectopaedia Cards keep getting updated like grocery lists, and they mostly ask for loots dropped by various monsters. It is possible that you may already have acquired the items requested during your exploration, so keep registering your Collectopaedia Cards from the Collectopaedia tab so that you rack in massive XP bonuses and raise your Affinity level. You can repeatedly raise a colony’s Affinity level by registering Collectopaedia Cards.
If you see a small pouch icon next to a Collectopaedia card, it means that you already have all the requested items in your inventory. In that case, simply hold the A button to collect your reward and instantly get XP bonuses and an Affinity boost. Having said that, the game allows you to complete a Collectopaedia card multiple times as long as you have the resources. However, the reward will be smaller than the first time.
