Winter map might return in League of Legends 2023, according to some implications from Riot Support FR’s tweet.
Winter is coming, but I don’t feel the chilly wind in Summoner’s Rift. What an immersion breaker! It has been 5 years since we last saw the snowy grounds of SR. This year, Riot has brought a lot of changes to League of Legends, especially in Patch 13.20 and 13.21. They even reverted some of their controversial decisions and perhaps replaced them with new ones.
But the point is that Riot seems more willing to listen to the fans now. Regular Dev Updates, Champion reworks, Jungle adjustments, etc, all seem to reflect their willingness to cater to the fans. Moreover, they are also bringing back Nexus Blitz. Naturally, this begs the question. Will Riot bring back the winter map, too? Given that so many fans want it back, it is not farfetched to entertain the idea.
Well, it seems like League Santa may have finally heard our wish. In response to a tweet made by Dumbs, Riot Support FR official Twitter handle has responded with something interesting. But whether it really suggests the return of the winter map is up to you.
So, let’s take a look at the chain of events that unfolded.

Dumbs’ Tweet about Bringing Winter Map Back
On October 10, 2023, Dumbs made a tweet requesting Riot to bring back the Winter Map. His Caps letters in the post along with his tone, surely reflect the deep desires of the fans of Winter Map. The slightly desperate tone is very much justified, as it has been 5 years since we have last enjoyed a snow-covered rift.
Reply to Dumbs’ Tweet by Riot Support FR Mod
However, the cries seemed to have been heard by Riot Games. More specifically, the person in charge of Riot Support’s France Twitter moderator, “Callmespike”. Thanks to Tchief18‘s calling Riot on Dumbs’ tweet, a surprising response from the aforementioned moderator has been heard. The exact response tweet is embedded below:
The French reply loosely translates to “The magic of the Solstice will perhaps work this year!”
Now, I’m not gonna pretend to be an astronomically educated person. So, I had to google the meaning of Solstice. From Wikipedia, what I could gather was that “The day of a solstice in either hemisphere has either the most sunlight of the year (summer solstice) or the least sunlight of the year (winter solstice) for any place other than the Equator.”
In the context of Dumbs’ tweet, it makes sense that Riot Support FR implies the winter solstice. Now, it could be legit news, or it might be another tease without any practical effect in the short term. If the reply is taken seriously, this could mean we will indeed see Winter Map pretty soon this year.
Or it could also be the case that Riot has plans to bring back the winter map sometime in the distant future. But merely teasing in response to a request like that doesn’t signal a very professional attitude. So, I would like to give this response from Riot some significant weight.
Overall, It’s good even to get teases from someone official regarding the Winter Map. The last time Riot talked about it, they explained how bringing changes like that has some technical changes. However, that was 3 years ago!
Surely, Riot now has the resources to make this a reality, and an easy one at that. Only time will tell!
