Activision just confirmed all Gulag changes that are about to come to Warzone 2.0 in Season 2.
Warzone 2.0‘s take on the Gulag is different than the original one from Warzone 1. Instead of a 1v1 combat, a battle between 4 players grouped in 2 would be conducted. Unlike most positive changes in the game, the Gulag system remained one of the most criticized features in Warzone 2.0.
The 2v2 fights in Gulag are not the only issue that makes the Warzone 2.0 Gulag undesirable to the player base. Luckily, Activision was taking notes, and they are prepared to make the required adjustments in Season 2 to make the Gulag significantly more similar to the Gulag in Warzone 1.

All Warzone 2.0 Season 2 Gulag Changes
In the recent Community Update blog, Activision shed light on all the upcoming Gulag changes in Season 2 of Warzone 2.0. The changes will include 1v1 fights, the removal of Jailer, map layout changes, weapon pool changes, and a large cash reward.
First things first, Activision is going for a more traditional 1v1 fighting system instead of Warzone 2.0’s take on the 2v2 Gulag battles. This way, Warzone fans can get a fair chance to redeploy themselves in the terrain of Al Mazrah.
Warzone 2.0 is also bringing back the Domination-style flag control point instead of the Jailer. So, the Jailer won’t appear in Overtime anymore. Instead, players will have to capture the flag in Overtime to get out of Gulag.
Another change will be to the layout of the map. As the Gulag battles will be 1v1s from now on, the map layout will also be modified substantially to favor the 1v1 fights.
In addition to the map layout change, the weapon loot pool will also be adjusted in the Season 2 update. Activision will remove the Shotguns from the ground loot and replace them with Assault Rifles, Submachine Guns, and Light Machine Guns. Pistols will still remain the secondary weapon.
The last and one of the most important QoL changes will be Gulag’s large Cash reward. Those who will win the 1v1 Gulag will be redeployed to Al Mazrah with a greater Cash reward. On top of that, there’ll be Cash all over the Gulag, so players have to motivation to roam around and not sit in a corner waiting for their prey.
