Riot Games released their first attempt at an ability-based tactical shooter with VALORANT.

Taking elements from tactical shooters like Counter-Strike and combining them with hero shooters such as Overwatch, Riot made a Frankenstein’s monster which becomes an instant hit among the tactical shooter player base who were waiting for something new to play in that space.

VALORANT launched with 11 agents, and with each new ACT, they introduced two additional agents. Riot plans to add 6 agents every year to give players more options when it comes to creating new tactical opportunities.

Furthermore, Riot already teased their next agent. Apparently, this time it will be a duelist agent tailor-made for lurkers. Rumor around the block is that this new agent might have the ability to go completely invisible.

Future agent to take more risk

In their recent dev blog, Riot claims they have already laid a solid foundation, but with future agents, they will be able to take more risks. Riot Games has a lot of experience under their belt when it comes to creating unique characters.

“Now that the basics are in place, we are going to take more risks with what each Agent introduces to the game, pushing some boundaries, and evolving what is possible in an ability based tac shooter”, John Goscicki, Character Producer at Riot Games.

Since they already have a pretty diverse roster of agents, their future agents will likely to have abilities that might completely change how players like to play Valorant.
