Supermassive Games, the studio best known for Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures Anthology, and The Quarry, has announced another major round of potential job cuts. The UK developer has begun a redundancy consultation process that it expects could result in the loss of up to 75 employees. Supermassive Games confirmed the news in a statement shared through its official social media account.

In brief

  • Supermassive Games has started a new redundancy consultation process.
  • The process is expected to result in up to 75 employees losing their jobs.
  • The studio says the decision is necessary for the long-term sustainability of the company.
  • Supermassive previously went through significant layoffs in both 2024 and 2025.

In its statement, Supermassive Games said it had made the “difficult decision” to begin a redundancy consultation process, with the company anticipating that up to 75 colleagues could ultimately lose their positions.

The studio described the move as a necessary step to help ensure the sustainability of the company. Supermassive added that supporting employees affected by the process will be its priority during the consultation.

At this stage, the wording is important. The studio has entered a consultation process, meaning the final number of redundancies has not yet been confirmed.

Another Major Round of Layoffs at the Until Dawn Developer

The announcement follows multiple rounds of job cuts at Supermassive Games in recent years.

In February 2024, the studio announced a restructuring that reportedly resulted in around 90 employees losing their jobs. Supermassive then announced another redundancy consultation in July 2025 involving up to 36 employees. And that announcement also came alongside the delay of Directive 8020, which was later released in 2026.

The latest consultation potentially affecting 75 workers represents another significant reduction for a studio that has faced repeated restructuring over the past few years.
