Wondering how big The Quarry’s story is? Keep reading to learn how many hours you’ll need to beat the game.
The Quarry is the latest decision interactive survival horror game from Supermassive Games. They are the same studio behind the widely successful Until Dawn. However, unlike Until Dawn, which was a PlayStation exclusive, The Quarry has been released on all platforms such as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
The game takes place in Hackett’s Quarry Summer Camp based in Upstate New York. And the story revolves around 9 main characters who have to survive the night at Hackett’s Quarry. The Quarry has many similarities to Until Dawn. And just like in Until Dawn, the main characters in this game can also die prematurely based on the decisions you make throughout the course of the story.
A single playthrough of The Quarry should take 10 hours on average to complete. That is if you’re taking your time to explore around and not avoiding interactable objects. However, with a series of wrong decisions and untimely character deaths, you may even be able to finish the game in 7 hours or under. Although, that comes with the downside of missing out on future dialogues and scenes from the dead characters.
The Quarry has mainly 10 chapters, along with a Prologue and an Epilogue. And each chapter has an average runtime of 40 to 60 minutes. While some chapters are short and can be finished within half an hour, others might take up to an hour or a bit longer to complete. Moreover, the cutscenes in this game are unskippable, so the only way of speedrunning is by walking faster and not interacting with the environment.
Even though it is possible to finish the game in 7 to 10 hours, you may still want to replay the game to explore all your options and experience all alternate endings. With each character having 10 to 12 possible ways of dying, you have to be extremely cautious to ensure everyone’s survival. However, there’s more replayability value to The Quarry than just its alternate routes.
The game has a unique feature called Death Rewind which only unlocks after your first playthrough. It’s a wildcard that can undo life-threatening mistakes and will most definitely compel you to replay the game. However, if you have purchased the Deluxe Edition of The Quarry, you will be able to apply this feature in your very first playthrough.
Moreover, the game also offers a Movie Mode that allows you to preset character traits of the 9 main characters and let the story play itself out. This means that all quick-time events and button-mashing sequences will be cut out and the entire game will run like a long movie. This will allow you to experience a story ending that will almost certainly be different from the one you got initially.
Furthermore, The Quarry also offers two multiplayer modes: Local and Online. The local multiplayer mode allows you to experience the story with friends, with each person controlling a different character. Whereas online multiplayer allows up to 7 players to vote on the major decisions of the game.
With diversified opinions from others, you may get to see new cutscenes and enjoy different endings. So, it is definitely worth trying out the multiplayer mode after you have completed the game in solo mode.
