It is now confirmed! All 16 classic maps from the original MW2 (2009) will be available to play with the launch of Modern Warfare III.
Despite earlier rumors that there wouldn’t be a Call of Duty game released in 2023, Activision dropped the biggest bomb with the announcement of the latest Modern Warfare sequel.
It was a relief for hardcore Call of Duty fans that the 2-year cycle rumor for Modern Warfare II would not be true. Nonetheless, the expectation for MWIII is extremely high following the successful launches of MW (2019) and MWII (2022).
Modern Warfare III‘s release date has been set for November 10, 2023. The countdown has already started, and information regarding the upcoming content is slowly being revealed. And it looks like, similar to Makarov, Activision is bringing back more nostalgic memories from the original Modern Warfare franchise.

MWIII will Have 16 Classic Maps from MW2 (2019)
In the MWIII announcement trailer, Activision included an Easter egg that directed viewers to a phone number. The number, when interacted with, revealed various secrets, including the fact that MWIII will feature all 16 original multiplayer maps from the MW2 2009 title. Not only that, but these maps will be playable on the same day of the launch.
The 16 classic maps from MW2 (2009) are:
- Afghan
- Derail
- Estate
- Favela
- Highrise
- Invasion
- Karachi
- Quarry
- Rundown
- Rust
- Scrapyard
- Skidrow
- Sub Base
- Terminal
- Underpass
- Wasteland
Call of Duty fans are definitely eager to revisit these 16 classic MW2 maps and relive their nostalgic memories. But they are also curious whether other popular MW2 DLC maps, including Carnival and Bailout, will also be playable at the game’s release or at a later time.
Moreover, there’s also no information regarding whether there’ll be other new maps released with Modern Warfare III or not. In any case, there’s still time before the game launches. So, hopefully, we’ll get all the answers by the time the game goes live, so everyone’s $70 investment becomes worthwhile.
