Recently, Riot has confirmed that Promos would be removed in season 13 split 2 of League of Legends.

While there are many modes in League of Legends, ranked is the most played one. Players can compete and play with others of similar skill levels in ranked. By winning a ranked match, a player can increase their rank. Likewise, by losing, they will be demoted from their current rank.

There are currently nine ranks in the game. These ranks are iron, bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond, master, grandmaster, and challenger. Moreover, there are different tiers within ranks as well.

While it is easy to rank up within rank tiers, players have to finish promo matches when moving from one rank to another. Whenever a player reaches 100LP in the last tier in their designated rank (like gold-I, platinum-I, diamond-I, etc.), they will have to play some promos match in order to rank up further. Depending on their performance, they will be able to rank up to the next rank or will have to stay on the same rank.

Earlier this year, Riot made some massive ranked changes. One of the first major changes was turning promos matches from best of 5 to best of 3. This change made promo matches far more bearable. And now Riot has announced in Split 2 they will be entirely removing promos from the game.

Promos Matches Being Removed From League of Legends

Earlier this week, Riot released a new dev log regarding ranked, skins, clash, and ASU. And in this video, they revealed some surprising new information. Firstly, they will be removing promos from the game. The reason for this change is that most of the community is hard stuck silver or below. This change will bring many players from these ranks to higher tiers. Additionally, Riot will add a new rank called emerald to ensure there won’t be an influx of people going to diamond or above.

This is a positive change, as most of the player base dislikes promo matches. Imagine almost reaching diamond rank yet being unable to rank up due to having teammates with disruptive behaviors. For now, we have to wait and see how this will affect the split 2 of this season.
