Toxicity has almost become synonymous with online gaming in 2021. And competitive VALORANT is definitely turning out to be one of the breeding grounds for these toxic behaviors.

From being abusive in the voice or text chats to throwing the game intentionally, VALORANT is currently plagued with these abusers who are always trying to ruin the game for everyone else. Riot already implemented an automated reporting system to deal with the growing player base.

However, it is still not enough as the current threshold before the system responds to these reports is still very low. Riot usually informs players if the player they reported actually got banned in the game client.

Furthermore, some players are complaining that they have reported seemingly obvious cases of abuse in the past, but in return, they got no response whatsoever from Riot.

Reporting system overhaul in patch 2.05

Starting with the upcoming VALORANT patch 2.05, a Riot dev confirmed that major changes are coming to the overall reporting system. Similar to League of Legends’ reporting system, Riot will implement a more aggressive report-ban feature that should be more effective while dealing with these toxic behaviors in the game.

For example, players that are getting reported by their own teammates are most likely to get a response from Riot’s new revamped reporting system. Fewer reports should result in a ban if the system can successfully determine abusive behaviors with more accuracy.

However, some players in the VALORANT community are understandably worried about the possibility of people abusing the reporting system. For example, if players get multiple reports by their teammates for no apparent reason, the system might assume toxicity and ban a player for not actually being toxic during games.

Hopefully, Riot can implement a truly robust system that can effectively tell the difference between real and fake reports. We’ll find out soon in the upcoming patch 2.05.
