Rainbow Six Siege’s Year 8 Season 2 Operation Dread Factor is officially here, and with it came a bunch of new bugs and performance issues.

With Y8S2 Operation Dread Factor, Ubisoft introduced a lot of new content, such as the new operator Fenrir, Consulate map rework, and more. But some Siege players have been facing constant FPS drop and generally low FPS at all times after the new patch dropped on May 30th.

But you can try a temporary workaround (shared on Twitter by @JUG_SEC) to resolve this stuttery mess of gameplay so you carry on with your Ranked Grind.

R6: Siege Patch Y8S2 LOW FPS FIX

Here’s a Step-by-Step Guide on how to fix the FPS issue:

Step 1: Locate the Ubisoft Game Launcher Directory

  1. Open the File Explorer on your Windows computer.
  2. Navigate to the “C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher” directory. (Note: This directory location may vary depending on the installation path you chose during the Ubisoft Game Launcher installation.)

Step 2: Access the Avatar Cache Folder

  1. Within the Ubisoft Game Launcher directory, locate and open the “cache” folder.
  2. Look for a subfolder named “avatars” and open it. This is where the profile pictures are stored.

Step 3: Clear the Avatar Cache

  1. Once inside the “avatars” folder, you will see a collection of files and folders representing the profile pictures.
  2. Select all the files and folders within the “avatars” folder.
  3. Right-click on the selected items and choose the “Delete” option from the context menu. Alternatively, you can press the “Delete” key on your keyboard.

Step 4: Confirm Deletion

  1. A confirmation dialogue box will appear, asking if you want to delete the selected items permanently. Ensure you have selected all the files and folders within the “avatars” folder.
  2. Click on the “Yes” button to proceed with the deletion.

Step 5: Restart Ubisoft Game Launcher and Launch the Game

  1. Close the File Explorer window.
  2. Restart the Ubisoft Game Launcher to ensure the changes take effect.
  3. Launch the Ubisoft game you want to play and enter a match or multiplayer session.

This quick maintenance procedure can enhance your gaming experience and guarantee more fluid gameplay in Rainbow Six Siege. However, you might need to carry out the above steps almost every week until Ubisoft fixes the issue.

Additional Tip: If you have a lower end CPU, struggling to provide a stable gameplay, you can open up Task Manager, and go to the “Details” tab. Then look for the process named “RainbowSix.exe” or “RainbowSixVulkan.exe” in the list. Right-click on it and hover over the “Set Priority” option in the context menu. From the sub-menu that appears, select “Above Normal” to allocate more CPU resources to the game, which can improve its performance.

Note: It’s important to be cautious when adjusting process priority. Setting the priority too high may impact the performance of other applications running on your computer.

By adjusting the process priority to “Above Normal” or “High,” you prioritize the game’s resource allocation, allowing it to utilize more of your computer’s processing power. This might help you give an extra FPS boost.

How to Fix Stuttering Bug on Low-End CPUs

Many players, especially with low-end CPUs, have been reporting stutteting and fps drop issues, which happens only after playing a match or two. We also have a temporary workaround for this that you can find below.

  1. Minimize the game and open the task manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc).
  2. In the task manager, go to the “Details” tab.
  3. Find Rainbow Six Siege (or RainbowSixVulkan) which will have high CPU memory consumption (e.g., around 200,000 KB).
  4. Right-click on Rainbow Six Siege and choose “Set affinity.”
  5. Uncheck “All Processors” and only check “CPU 0” wait for 10-15 seconds.
  6. Then check “All Processors” so all CPU cores are ticked again.
  7. Click “OK,” close the task manager, and return to the game.

Note that the above steps is just a workaround and the issue might occur once again after 2 or 3 matches. In that case, just repeat the instructions again, so that you don’t have to constantly restart the game, which could lead to a round or a match loss.

Until Ubisoft fixes the issue, the permanent solution would be to upgrade your CPU. But, not everyone can afford to do that which is why the workaround can be quite handy.
