Rainbow Six Siege, a tactical first-person shooter developed by Ubisoft, has experienced tremendous growth throughout the years that it has existed. The game will soon release its newest content with Y8S2 Operation Dread Factor, which will bring the new operator, Fenrir.
Hailing from Sweden, Fenrir will join the Redhammer squad, the chaotic, brute-force-driven crew led by Thermite. Fenrir is a 2-speed, 2-armor operator, and his role is to slow down the Attackers with his special F-NATT mines.
Here’s everything you need to know about this operator.

Svensson was a curious boy growing up in Uppsala, where his parents encouraged his fascination with animal biology by enrolling him in every science class they could find. On track to attend his hometown’s University to pursue his passion, his focus shifted following his mandatory service. He learned that he had an affinity for physical fitness and tactical organization and became especially interested in how combat affects soldiers’ emotional states. Following his service period, he studied neurochemistry and joined the Swedish Armed Forces, quickly earning his way up.
As a communicator in the Special Operations Group, he expanded his skillset and aimed to develop strategies that would improve his peers’ performance. When his project to create formulas that alter soldiers’ emotions was denied, his insistence caused him to be discharged. Estranged from his family and made a pariah in the scientific and military communities, he had few options when Deimos approached him. With his newfound partner and funding, Svensson developed his technology until it became evident that he was being used to create a dangerous weapon. Taking his research with him, Svensson escaped Deimos’s facility and sought out Rainbow.

Deimos is dangerous, and I considered that Svensson might be a spy, so I had Buck join me during interviews. On paper, Fenrir is exactly the type of person Rainbow would seek out to recruit. He’s an intellectual, and an ambitious tactician in peak form. As I learned more about his career path, I realized the traits that led to his military discharge are ones I expect in a member of Redhammer: unflinching drive, conviction, and readiness to put himself in harm’s way when necessary.

Best Weapon Loadout
- Primary Weapon: MP7 (SMG), SASG-12 (Shotgun)

Fenrir can pick either the MP7 SMG or the SASG-12 Shotgun as his primary weapon. The MP7 SMG is considered one of the most reliable guns on defense. The weapon has low recoil, so it is easy to control and can still deal hefty damage with its high fire rate. For this weapon, you won’t have any options for zoomed optics so you can choose any 1x sight of your preference. For barrel attachments, we recommend using the Flash Hider to reduce the initial kick of the gun, but you can also try out the others as you see fit.
On the other hand, the SASG-12 shotgun can do some serious damage if you land the shots. This shotgun will only be viable for close-range gunfights if you can anchor in-site and hold tight corners. So, if you intend to play very aggressively, then you can consider picking the shotgun. However, for most players, we will recommend using the MP7 instead.
Another reason why you do not need to bring the SASG-12 is that Fenrir has the BAILIFF 410 secondary handgun, which shoots out shotgun pellets. Using the BAILIFF, Fenrir can make necessary rotations and create lines of sight during the round.
UPDATE: After taking feedback from the Y8S2 TS, Ubisoft has added the 5.7 USG pistol as another option for Fenrir’s secondary weapon. So now, running the SASG-12 will become more viable, but we still won’t recommend most players to use this combination.
Fenrir has two choices to pick from for his secondary gadget, which are Barbed Wire and a Bulletproof Camera. Both the gadgets are good options, so the choice depends on what map and objective you are playing and the team game plan. The Barbed Wire can pair well with Fenrir’s gadget to slow down the Attackers, so we suggest picking it.
Fenrir’s primary gadget is called the F-NATT DREAD MINE. This is a unique fear-inducing mine that Fenrir can be thrown and stuck to surfaces around the map. When the gadget is triggered, any operator entering its radius will have their vision blocked by a purple cloud of smoke.
Fenrir needs to manually activate his device in order to impact the Attackers within its range. When an Attacker enters the effective radius, and the gadget is triggered, a creepy purple gas is released from the mine, obscuring their vision. It’s worth noting that any operator, except Fenrir, will also be affected by the F-NATT mine when it’s in its triggered state. However, it’s important to mention that when the gadget is activated, it loses its bulletproof protection, giving the Attackers the option to risk having their vision blocked in order to destroy the mine.
So how does an F-NATT DREAD MINE get activated or deactivated? Fenrir has five mines but only three activation codes, meaning he can only have up to three of his mines activated at any given time. He can send activation codes remotely by looking at the icon of a deployed mine and interacting with it. This puts the mine in an activated state, so it will trigger and start gassing off if an Attacker comes near.
Fenrir can also retrieve activation codes remotely in the same way. This resets the mine to its deactivated state, making it bulletproof again, and returns the activation code to Fenrir’s inventory so he can use it again.
Therefore, when playing Fenrir, you must juggle the different mines quickly to get the most out of them. Do keep in mind that once an activated gadget is destroyed, the activation code will not get recovered. So try to place them in spots that are difficult to see or stay close to them to punish the Attackers while they are distracted.
Tips and Tricks
- Placing the F-NATT mines outside the map can be useful to play aggressively and spawn peek, as shown in this clip from DansomeWoja.
- As we’ve said earlier, try to hide mines by placing them under objects or under windows, so Attackers will need to turn to get rid of them.
- Attackers will try to gain intel and clear defender utilities during the start of the round, so to keep the gadget safer, keep them deactivated until mid to late round.
How to counter Fenrir?
In its non-triggered state, the F-NATT mine is bulletproof but can be destroyed with explosives. So, Frag Grenades, Ash/Zofia impacts, and Flores Drones are some good counters to it. But when the gadget is triggered, the mine opens, similar to Melusi’s Banshee, so you shoot it to destroy it.
Brava is also a good counter to Fenrir, as you can hack the gadget to turn it against the Defenders. So any defending operator entering the effective radius of the mine will be surprised by the purple smoke. In its bulletproof (deactivated) state, Brava will be able to overheat and destroy the gadget with her drone.
Should you pick Fenrir?
Fenrir is a unique trap operator that can slow down the Attackers. You can bait them using the drones to get some easy kills. But as the mines don’t activate automatically, we won’t suggest using Fenrir for beginners. Players with good game sense and map knowledge can get more out of Fenrir by knowing where to put the mines so the Attackers are the most vulnerable.
