Rainbow Six Siege: Operation Steel Wave introduced us to two new operators: Ace and Melusi. Ace the 2-speed 2-armor attacker in the game will be bringing his unique S.E.L.M.A Aqua Breacher to make big entrances or lines of sight through the reinforced walls.

So here’s everything you need to know to get started with Ace:

Ace loadout

Ace has the AK-12 assault rifle and the M1014 shotgun as an option for his primary weapon. For most situations, the AK-12 will be the clear choice for Ace, as it has one of the highest DPS (Damage per second) in this game. Additionally, with the option of the angled grip plus compensator, this rifle can be very deadly. However, you could also opt for a vertical grip if you want a more stable gun to help you land your shots. For a full comparison of the different attachments, check out Rouge 9‘s video here.

For his secondary weapon, Ace’s only option is the trusty P9 pistol from the GIGN lineup. As his secondary gadget, Ace can bring smoke grenades or breach charges and whichever you pick will depend on your playstyle for the round. For example, if you are playing on full support then smokes will be your ally to block the sight of the defenders and go for the plant. Otherwise, the breach charges can also be very useful to make quick vertical plays, if your Sledge or Buck dies early.

Ace S.E.L.M.A gadget

Ace uses his S.E.L.M.A. AQUA BREACHER to sequentially breach reinforced surfaces. Each S.E.L.M.A. device will make 3 subsequent breaches on a reinforced wall unless they are destroyed in the process. Unlike Thermite and Hibana the S.E.L.M.A. device is a throwable gadget so you can breach walls from a distance and pull up your gun very quickly.

Here are some characteristics of this new gadget:

  • Ace needs two of his S.E.L.M.A. devices to break a hatch completely.
  • The device cannot activate sequential explosions when used on a horizontal floor.
  • The gadget can be countered by Bandit, Kaid, and also with Mute jammers.
  • Ace’s device can be intercepted by Jager’s ADS or Wamai’s Mag-net system.
  • The device won’t be activated when placed in an unbreachable surface and Ace can pick it up later.
  • S.E.L.M.A. device will destroy Defender gadgets within its AOE, making Kaid tricking very difficult (Although Bandit-tricking can be done easily).
  • The gadget can also be used to break deployable shields.

Tips and Tricks

You could even destroy Kaid electrified hatches by placing two SELMA devices besides the hatch on the wooden floor. (For this to work the hatch must have wooden floor beside it)

By placing S.E.L.M.A device on 90-degree walls, you could partially destroy the sidewall, creating useful lines of sight even if it is reinforced and electrified.

You can use Ace’s gadget above the Muted walls to destroy the top portion of the wall and then chuck a grenade to destroy the jammers completely.

Ace’s gadget does only about 8 damage to defenders sitting close to the wall, so be careful as defenders might surprise you from the other side. Defenders might also use Macie Jay’s Mira trick to destroy the gadget and use the breached hole to their advantage.

Ace: a versatile operator

Ace is a very flexible operator, and with a solid loadout, he can easily take the breacher role in your team. His ability is easy to use but very effective in most situations. So it is an easy recommendation for players to save renown and buy him as your next operator.
