Plated Steelcaps gets a surprisingly huge buff in Patch 13.5 of League of Legends.
Patch 13.5 is now released in League of Legends, as many changes have landed in the live servers. While most patches consist of sweeping champion buffs and nerfs, some other interesting tidbits are always included in those updates.
This patch included changes to many champions, including nerfs to Twitch and buffs to Leblanc. Also, there were significant adjustments done to Ashe, Azir, and more. With all these changes, Riot aims to balance the game to keep players interested.
There were also some interesting things included in the patch notes, such as the Plated Steelcaps changes. Previously known as Ninja Tabi, Plated Steelcaps is one of the most used Boots upgrades in League of Legends. As one of the primary items against AD-based compositions, these buffs could change everything. Here is what we know so far.

Plated Steelcaps Buff
As per the official patch notes from Riot, here is the buff to Plated Steelcaps.
Plated Steelcaps:
- An Auto’s an Auto, No Matter the Code: Steelcaps now looks for all auto attacks for its damage reduction rather than auto attacks tagged with just auto attack and nothing else.
The exact wording on that is confusing. What we and many others can glean from that is that Plated Steelcaps will now block more attacks now. So from now on, Plated Steelcaps will now check and block a lot more types of attacks. Some of the attacks and abilities that are blocked are as follows.
- Heartsteel Procs
- Tibbers Auto Attacks (Annie Ultimate)
- Almost all On-Hit Abilities like Ezreal Q, Gangplank Q, Fiora Q, etc
- Bel’veth Q and E
- Viktor Q
- Irelia Q
- Nasus Q
- Garen Q
- And Many More.
Spideraxe compiled a list of many additional things that Plated Steelcaps will block now, as well as a big post on Reddit.
With this change, Plated Steelcaps (still widely known as Ninja Tabi by the player base) is a high-value item. This item will now help laners, especially top laners, so much in terms of being able to survive in the lane. It is a really huge buff, and this will make things better for suffering matchups in the lane.
