Getting Phantom Blade Zero’s true ending takes some planning before the final boss run. Your main goals are to finish Secrets at the Heart of the Lake, collect its final reward from Inanis, and complete Bloodline Awakening through all five Lóng Pillar trials.
This guide covers the preparation first, then walks through the spoiler-filled route and the points where you should keep a separate save.
In brief:
- Finish the lake quest and speak with Inanis afterward to receive the Violet Blossom.
- Win all five Lóng Pillar trials to complete Bloodline Awakening.
- Clear the lake quest’s prerequisites before entering Mirage Estate as the safest route.
- Keep saves before Mirage Estate and the final boss sequence so you can recover from missed steps.
Spoiler-Light True Ending Preparation Checklist
Before reading the walkthrough, build these habits into your playthrough:
- Keep several manual saves. Save before entering a new region and before accepting a major story warning.
- Review purple story quests before moving on. Treat unfinished branches as your cue to explore.
- Investigate the giant dragon statues. Keep track of locations you need to revisit.
- Finish conversations after major quest battles. Check the journal and your rewards before leaving.
- Keep your pre-finale save. Give postgame exploration its own slot.
Phantom Blade Zero provides 20 manual save slots, and three rotating autosaves. Use those manual slots to preserve earlier progress. Failed Tales remain unavailable during postgame cleanup, so returning to an area after the credits will not restore every missed quest.
Spoilers Ahead: True Ending Quests, Locations, and Bosses
The rest of this guide names quest objectives, late-game areas, and bosses. The ending’s story revelations are left out.
How to Get the Phantom Blade Zero True Ending
Follow these two quest tracks before entering the finale:
| Requirement | What to check |
|---|---|
| Secrets at the Heart of the Lake | Finish the ritual sequence and speak with Inanis afterward for the Violet Blossom |
| Bloodline Awakening | Win all five Lóng Pillar trials |
| Final progression | Finish both tracks before starting the fight against Leng Tu, Herald of the Veil |
This route leads to the Final Battle ending and the With Heart and Blood achievement or trophy.
1. Follow the Purple Story Quests as Regions Open
Following progression leads to the lake quest:
- Deep in the Valley
- Illusion of Inanis
- Sha-Chi Powered Boat
- Allure of Vanity
- Illusory Pipa
- Pillars of Kunlun
- Whence the Weeping
- The Herald’s Illusion
- Crimson Manor
- Secrets at the Heart of the Lake
Use these names to audit your journal before Mirage Estate. Bloodline Awakening finishes later, since one pillar is inside the estate.
2. Start Secrets at the Heart of the Lake in the Village of Lu
Look for the blue Firefly’s Memory Flowers beside the dry-stone wall above Zhuo Bi, the Gatekeeper’s arena. Collecting the first petal starts the quest.
Track the remaining flowers as you explore. You need all six to open the barrier at Dusk’s Refuge, near the Temple of Blue Fireflies. Follow the quest through the refuge and the confrontation with Dusk, then continue toward the lake and its Acolytes.
3. Collect the Four Acolyte Masks
The mask hunt takes you through several regions:
| Acolyte | Where to look |
|---|---|
| Yanru | Village of Lu |
| Lei Ting | Pangzhen, beyond the barrier near the Pond of Fading Song Bell |
| Guhe | The village dock island in eastern Meigu Lake |
| Hansui | Crimson Manor |
For Lei Ting, obtain Flaming Mane in western Pangzhen and use it to burn the barrier. Reaching Hansui involves the Illusory Pipa and Whence the Weeping Branches, followed by progression through the Mandate Encampment.
You also need both Crystal Puppet Eyes. One comes from the hanging puppet involved in gaining access to Crimson Manor; the other comes from the Puppet Scavenger inside the manor.
4. Finish the Mirror and Lake Ritual Sequence
With the masks collected, head to the Four Guardians’ Mirror in northwestern Meigu Lake.
Continue through the mirror area, deal with its boss, and reach Puppet No. 99. Insert the two Crystal Puppet Eyes, follow the ritual objectives, and defeat the High Elder.
Afterward, speak with Inanis in the Realm of Mirage and collect the Violet Blossom. Make that conversation your final check before considering this branch finished.
5. Check Your Journal Before Entering Mirage Estate
Create a separate save near the Green Serpent House Bell in Pangzhen. The bridge toward Mirage Estate is roughly 120 metres away.
If Inanis warns you about unfinished business, choose the option to return later. Finish the lake branch before crossing as a precaution.
The precise scope of this cutoff is disputed. PowerPyx recommends completing the listed purple quests before entering Mirage Estate.
Two specific Whence the Weeping objectives are reported to become blocked after crossing:
- Reaching the summit Shrine to investigate the weeping.
- Entering the depths beneath the Shrine.
Crossing also disables several Crimson Forest Bells, including Parting Mists, Mirrorwood Depths, Threadbound Great Tree, Burial Grounds, and the Sha-Chi Tower Bells. Clear nearby objectives first to avoid losing convenient access.
6. Complete All Five Lóng Pillar Trials
Bloodline Awakening requires five trial victories. Visiting the statues alone is insufficient.
| Region | Location or nearby Bell |
|---|---|
| Weeping Creek Valley | The valley’s Lóng Pillar, with a Bell beside it |
| Crimson Forest | Mirrorwood Lóng Pillar Bell |
| Meigu Lake | Midlake Lóng Pillar Dock Bell |
| Meigu Lake’s mirror area | Four Guardians’ Mirror Bell |
| Mirage Estate | Mirage Estate Lóng Pillar Bell |
You can complete available trials in any order. If an early interaction only offers a brief scene and an option to leave, return after further quest progression. The fifth victory completes Bloodline Awakening.
Before heading into the finale, check the quest’s completion status. Counting discovered statues is easy to confuse with counting completed trials.
7. Save at The Last Chance Before the Final Boss Run
At The Last Chance Bell in Mount Soulrend, create another manual save.
The warning here appears even when you have completed the requirements. It warns that you cannot leave the final boss area until the ending is finished.
The ending-selection cutoff is the start of the Leng Tu fight. Finish your quest checks before entering:
- Lake ritual completed.
- Violet Blossom received from Inanis.
- Bloodline Awakening completed.
Then proceed through the remaining bosses.
Phantom Blade Zero True Ending Lockouts and Recovery Options
| Situation | What you can do |
|---|---|
| You reached the Mirage Estate warning but have not crossed | Choose to return and finish outstanding objectives |
| You crossed with a blocked Shrine objective | Reload a save from before the bridge; a later repair is unverified |
| You crossed with other unfinished ending tasks | Check which objectives remain accessible; some post-entry completion is documented, but recovery depends on the task |
| You reached The Last Chance but have not started the finale | Finish your checks and preserve a manual save |
| You started Leng Tu with missing requirements | Reload a save from before the fight; the ending branch is reported to lock when combat starts |
The bridge-related restrictions are documented separately from the final ending-selection cutoff. Keeping saves at both points gives you a practical fallback.
Do Failed Side Quests Ruin the True Ending?
A failed Tale needs checking individually. For example, PowerPyx explicitly confirms that killing Red, which cuts off the Daughter of the Dark Sect quest, does not prevent the ending trophy.
Other missed Tales can still cost rewards or separate achievements. Finish quests you care about before advancing and keep the true ending checklist focused on the lake branch and Bloodline Awakening.
Can You Get the True Ending After Finishing the Game?
Postgame exploration is available before starting New Game+, including collectible cleanup and remaining accessible Tales. Failed missable Tales are excluded.
As far as we know, completing missing ending requirements after the credits lets you replay the finale and change your result on the same completed save.
Keep your pre-finale save until With Heart and Blood unlocks. If your ending is wrong, that earlier save gives you a clear place to investigate what was missing.
