The Brazilian team of Ninjas in Pyjamas have secured themselves a spot in the Six Invitational grand finals for the second year in a row.
In the upper bracket finals today, NiP defeated their regional rivals MIBR by a 2-1 scoreline and thus will advance to the grand finals of Siege’s most prominent tournament.
However, MIBR didn’t let NiP go past them that easily. In the first map, Consulate, MIBR looked very strong, as they took down NiP with a 7-5 win. But NiP hit back hard in their map pick, Coastline, where they put up a dominating show and won it 7-4.
The decider went to Clubhouse, where NiP had a massive first half, ending the defending split 5-1. But once again, MIBR showed their mental strength as they slowly crawled back into the match, managing to turn around the scoreline. MIBR repeated another 5-1 defensive half on Clubhouse. The match continued to the full 15 rounds, where NiP managed to win the last round on Attack and won the map in a thrilling 8-7 scoreline.
In 2020, NiP made it to the grand finals through the lower bracket, where they were just a few rounds away from being the World Champions. But SSG ultimately came back strong and took them down in a heartbreaking 3-2 series.
However, this time, NiP will have a huge 1-map advantage in the finals, as they’ve made their way through the upper bracket. Not only that, but their opponent will also have to play a best-of-three series on the same day as the BO5 grand finals.
While MIBR have fallen down into the lower bracket, they are still not out of the competition. MIBR will now face the victors of Liquid vs. TSM matchup tomorrow in the lower bracket finals. Catch all the action live at Twitch or YouTube.
