A new game mode, Swiftplay, will be coming to League of Legends in the 2025 Season. Here’s everything you need to know about this mode.
In March of 2023, Riot released a brand new mode to League of Legends called Quickplay. It was meant to be a fast-paced game mode that replaced the traditional Blind Pick mode. Quickplay forwent the time-consuming Champion Select process and let players pick champions and roles before the start of the game. This effectively solved the champion select dodge problem and saved quite a bit of time.
However, the mode faced the same problem as Blind Pick, it didn’t offer anything unique. If people wanted to play normal Summoners Rift, they would be queuing up to Draft Pick, which offered the traditional Champion Select experience and there was no fear of mirror matchups. Moreover, Quickplay had horrible UI issues in the beginning.
Due to how unpopular Quickplay is, Riot will be retiring the game mode in early 2025. In its stead, they will be introducing a brand new mode called Swiftplay. As a mode, it will be much faster than Quickplay and will be a faster way to experience authentic Summoner’s Rift gameplay.

Swiftplay Arriving In League of Legends
As I stated before, Swiftplay will be a much faster game mode compared to Quickplay. Gold and EXP generation will be much quicker compared to Draft Pick and Swiftplay. Objectives will also spawn faster, essentially everything will be much quicker.
That said, here are all the changes that differentiate Swiftplay from the classic Summoners Rift,
- Sources of gold and experience grant more of each later in the game.
- Increased effectiveness of comeback XP / gold.
- Decreased effectiveness for taking down players who are behind.
- Turret plates fall earlier.
- Baron Nashor spawns earlier.
- Teams only need 3 drakes to achieve soul.
- Support and Jungle quests complete faster.
- Nearby minions that die grant reduced gold if not killed by a champion.
- Support items cost more but have increased stats.
