Night City has had a busy weekend. Paweł Sasko, associate game director on Cyberpunk 2, celebrated Cyberpunk 2077 reaching approximately 187,000 concurrent players on Steam, sharing his excitement over the community’s clips, memes, and renewed enthusiasm.

The surge follows the arrival of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 and the game’s free Update 2.5. CD Projekt Red released the accompanying gameplay update on October 22, giving players fresh reasons to return to Night City.

In brief:

  • Paweł Sasko reported a weekend peak of 187K concurrent players on Steam.
  • The increased activity follows Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 and Update 2.5.
  • Sasko celebrated the community response while asking players for honest feedback.
  • The figure covers Steam concurrency, rather than the game’s total audience across platforms.

Paweł Sasko Celebrates Cyberpunk 2077’s Steam Resurgence

In his post on X, Sasko described an emotional weekend watching players jump back into the game.

“It’s been hell of a weekend 🥹 Peak of 187K concurrent players on Steam alone, a lot of hilarious threads and meme clips, it all fills my heart with joy 🥹❤️”

The 187K figure is the rounded peak Sasko shared. It represents people playing simultaneously through Steam, excluding players on consoles and other PC storefronts.

His reaction also highlights the activity around the game beyond the numbers. Players sharing funny encounters and gameplay clips have given the team plenty to enjoy alongside the renewed attention.

Sasko currently serves as associate game director on Cyberpunk 2. His post focuses on the response to Cyberpunk 2077 and its latest update.

The timing brings two major Cyberpunk releases together. CD Projekt Red’s October 22 launch announcement celebrated both the new anime installment, available on Netflix, and the release of its accompanying game update.

Ahead of launch, the studio highlighted several additions to Update 2.5, including:

  • Content inspired by Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2.
  • Cyberware customization.
  • A new dual-wielding playstyle.

For returning players, those additions offer something new to try after watching the anime. However, the player count alone cannot show how much of the increase came from the series, the update, or other factors.

Sasko Asks Players Where Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 Can Improve

Sasko also used the moment to invite criticism, asking players to explain what worked and where the update fell short.

“Chooms, give us feedback, what we can improve, where we have missed the mark with 2.5? Your perception is everything 🙇”

That request gives the celebration a practical follow-up. With so many players exploring the update, the team has an opportunity to hear how its new features hold up across different playstyles.

Sasko offered no specific promises about further changes in the post.
