Every Interview Response you can pick during the intro of Metaphor: ReFantazio.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is a very dialogue heavy game as well as a game with a lot of choices. Moreover, its JRPG combat mechanics require you to smartly build your character as well as your party members to fill different roles during battle.
There are different stats you can focus on while levelling your character. As such, there are different playstyles to pursue. You can choose to build your character to be more physical attack focused, magic focused, tanky, etc.
Furthermore, these stats can be impacted by various activities outside combat, and even dialogue. As early as the intro of the game, you’ll come across a very important conversation. During this conversation, you’ll get 5 dialogue choices, each of which will impact your base stats.
This is a very important choice as it will dictate what type of build you’ll have and your effectiveness in combat.
In this article, we’ve listed all the responses you can choose during your interview in the Recruitment Center, along with changes they make to your base stats.

During the intro, when you arrive at the Grad Trad for the first time, you’ll go to the Recruitment Center to join the military. There, during your interview, Captain Klinger will ask what skills you bring to the military.
You’ll have 5 responses to choose from, each of which not only increases a stat but also decreases at least one. So, make sure to choose carefully if you have a specific combat style you want to focus on.
Response | Stat Effects | When to Choose |
---|---|---|
I’m stronger than I look. | [Increase] Strength +2 [Decrease] Magic -2 | If want to focus on physical damage. However, keep in mind that this choice will drastically decrease your Magic effectiveness, which is otherwise a very powerful tool. |
I’ve got a sharp mind. | [Increase] Magic +2 [Decrease] Strength -2 | If you want focus on ranged and elemental attacks. This is a very good choice as elemental attacks can be used to target enemy weaknesses. Thus, Magic builds are very versatile and can take down a wide range of enemies. |
I can take a lot of punishment. | [Increase] Endurance +2 [Decrease] Agility -2 | This choice is good if you want to build a tanky character, however you won’t dodging attacks all that often. |
I’m small, but quick. | [Increase] Agility +2 [Decrease] Endurance -2 | Inverse of a tanky build, where you’ll dodge attacks more often but will take more damage. |
I’ve always been lucky. | [Increase] Luck +4 [Decrease] Magic, Strength, Agility, Endurance -1 | This is a high-risk choice, significantly boosting your chances of a critical hit, but reducing all other major stats. If you’re a bit of a gambler, Luck based builds should be right up your alley. |

We recommend choosing “I’ve got a sharp mind” to boost Magic, as it will allow you to more effectively target weak points, which is one of the best ways to take down enemies.
However, you should not shy away from pursuing the playstyle you like better. Remember, you’ll have plenty of party members to fill in the gaps in your characters’ skillset.
