Marvel Rivals, the competitor to the hero shooter juggernaut Overwatch 2, will skip a feature that made Overwatch unappealing according to a significant part of the player base.

The Chinese gaming giant NetEase was given the opportunity to bring the popular Marvel universe to life. While previous attempts at creating a mass multiplayer experience based on the Marvel universe failed miserably, this third-person hero shooter might be the answer to Marvel Entertainment’s foray into the competitive multiplayer gaming market.

The collaboration between NetEase Games and Marver Entertainment was seen with a lot of skepticism from critics and players alike as it looked like a poor copycat of the popular Overwatch formula.

However, the gaming community was surprised at how much polish and love NetEase showed the source material. Fan-favorite characters like Spiderman, Ironman, Venom, Captain America, and many more were brought to life with polish, care, and dedication.

As with any other multiplayer experience, Marvel Rivals also features a well-thought-out competitive mode. As of writing, this mode doesn’t have any role queue for specific character roles. Consequently, team synergy becomes an afterthought for most players.

The inclusion of a role queue for dedicated duelists, tanks, and support players may solve this issue. However, many in the hero shooter community believe this may add unnecessary restrictions to the free-flowing nature of the current meta.

The role queue isn’t coming

Marvel Rivals’ main competitor Overwatch implemented such a feature in their competitive mode and it divided the community. Many in the community believe Marvel Rivals should stay far away from adding these features in the game.

And seems like, the devs at NetEase don’t plan on adding any form of role queue. In a recent talk with DotEsports, “Right now, we’re not considering a role queue,” Guangyun “Guangguang” Chen, Marvel Rivals creative director.

In short, the dev team wants players to try out many different hero compositions. Since the core experience is being received well by the player base, it is highly unlikely NetEase will change something that isn’t broken at the moment.
