Bungie is launching a new limited-time event in Marathon tomorrow, giving Runners a multi-run PvPvE hunt built around one particularly destructive prize. Called Ordnance Heist, the event begins on August 18 at 10 AM PT and challenges players to collect keys, fight through multiple Zones, and ultimately get their hands on the new Firestorm power weapon.

In brief

  • Marathon’s Ordnance Heist begins August 18 at 10 AM PT
  • Players must collect three Firestorm Locker keys across multiple runs
  • Firestorm is Marathon’s first experimental power weapon
  • The limited-time event ends September 1 at 10 AM PT

Marathon’s Ordnance Heist Turns Firestorm Into the Ultimate Prize

Ordnance Heist sends players after UESC enemies across different Zones, with defeated enemies potentially dropping UESC Manifests and Key Templates. Players will initially hunt enemies on Perimeter before taking Key Templates into Dire Marsh, completing their objectives, and successfully extracting to turn them into Firestorm Locker keys.

Three completed keys are required to reach the final stage. Players can then locate a Firestorm Locker on Perimeter, Dire Marsh, or Outpost and use all three keys to open it.

Of course, other Runners can also be hunting the same locker, meaning the final stretch could quickly become a fight between competing squads.

Firestorm Is Marathon’s First Power Weapon

The main attraction is Firestorm, which Bungie describes as the first power weapon system added to Marathon.

Built from a heavily customized Hardline HPR frame, the precision rifle features a sniper scope and explosive incendiary rounds that detonate on impact. Its biggest limitation is ammunition. Firestorm carries just six shots, cannot be reloaded, and has no additional ammunition available once those rounds are gone.

Ordnance Heist Also Introduces New Rewards

UESC Manifests earned during the event can be spent in the MIDA and Traxus Armories on Sponsored Kits, Implants, Weapon Chips, and Key Templates. Players using a MIDA or Traxus Sponsored Kit can also earn an additional 15 UESC Manifests when successfully extracting.

Bungie has confirmed that Ordnance Heist runs until September 1 at 10 AM PT. Firestorm will not disappear completely afterward, either, as the weapon will remain available as a possible Supply Drop reward in Zones that support them.
