Worlds 2024 Format

Firstly, let’s start with the format for Worlds 2024. Similar to the last Worlds, Worlds 2024 will be divided into three stages. These are the Play-In Stage, the Swiss Stage, and the Knockout Stage. Here’s a breakdown of each of these stages,

Play-In Stage

A total of Eight teams will be participating in the Play-In Stage. Out of the Eight teams, only four teams will be qualifying for the Swiss Stage.

The Play-Ins will consist of two best-of-three double-elimination brackets. The winners of each bracket will automatically move on to the Swiss Stage. In the lower bracket, teams with a score of 1-1 records from the opposing bracket will play against each other for the last two spots for the Swiss Stage.

The Play-In Stage will start on the 25th of September and end on September 29th. Each of the Play-In Stage games will be played in the Riot Arena in Berlin, Germany.

Swiss Stage

The Swiss Stage is once again returning to Worlds. There will be 16 teams in this Stage, and all the teams will be divided into four pools. They will be drawn into an initial set of 8 best-of-one matches based on their seeding: Pool 1 teams will play Pool 4 teams, and Pool 2 teams will play Pool 3 teams. Additionally, no team will play a team from their own region in the first round.

The pools are,

  • Pool 1: LCK1, LCS1, LEC1, LPL1
  • Pool 2: LCK2, LPL2, LCS2, LEC2
  • Pool 3: LCK3, LCK4, LPL3, LPL4
  • Pool 4: Play-In Stage Teams

Following the first round of play, there will be another draw for the second round to pair teams with the same record against one another – this time with no further draw restrictions. This year, teams will not be placed in rematches against previous opponents. The tournament will repeat this process for 3 more rounds of play, pitting teams with even records against each other until they reach 3 wins to advance, or 3 losses to be eliminated from the competition.

The first round of the Swiss Stage will be held from October 3rd to 7th and the second round from October 10th to 13th. Each of the Swiss Stage games will be played in the Riot Arena in Berlin, Germany.

Swiss Stage will start on the 25th of September and end on September 29th. Each of the Play-In Stages will be played in the Adidas Arena in Paris, France.

Knockout Stage

A total of eight teams will be qualifying for the Knockout Stage. Unlike the previous stages, Knockout Stage will be played in the best-of-five format and will include Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Finals.

All the teams with a 3-0 record in the Swiss Stage will play against teams with a 3-2 record. The rest of the teams will be drawn to play each other. It is a single elimination bracket of all these eight teams where the Winner of the Finals will take home the Summoner’s Cup and become the Worlds 2024 Champions.

The Quarterfinals will be held from October 17-20, while the Semifinals will be held from November 26-27. Both Quarterfinals and Semifinals will be held at Adidas Arena in Paris, France.

Finally, the Finals will be held on the 2nd of November in the O2 arena in London, England.
