Ubisoft just made the announcement that the Australian team of ‘The Knights‘ can no longer compete in 2021 Six August Major, which is set to be held in Mexico.

Knights will be unable to attend the Mexico Major due to strict COVID travel restrictions set by the Australian government.

Mexico Six Major to proceed with 15 teams

The Mexico Six August Major was initially planned to bring the top 4 teams from each of the 4 main regions for an ultimate International Siege LAN event. However, with The Knights now being unable to attend the Major, Ubisoft has made the tough decision to continue the event with 15 teams instead of the qualified 16.

As the Knights cannot join us for the event and in consideration of timing, administrative requirements and local authorities’ safety guidelines, we have made the difficult decision to not replace them and proceed with 15 teams in the competition.

The org announced that “every possible option has been examined and the consensus has been reached that the Major will be played with 15 teams.”

Knights will now receive a total share of the prize pool corresponding to a 13-16th place finish, alongside the 50 crucial SI points.

A similar situation arose during Six Invitational 2021, where Wildcard Gaming failed to attend the event due to Australia’s strict travel rules.

Ubisoft stated that they are currently “working on reshaping the competitive format and schedules” in line with 15 teams. More details will be shared soon, so stay tuned for the latest updates.
