Riot will be giving big changes to Illaoi in Lol patch 14.3, focusing on increased tentacle range.

Patch 14.3 of League of Legends is barely a week away. The patch note is filled with huge changes including Corki, Maokai, Yorick, etc. This time, Riot is focusing a lot on changing the numbers as well as the functionality of champion abilities. This has probably got to do with coping with the massive item changes implemented in season 2024.

Illaoi, another top-lane hyper-carry, will be getting huge changes in the next patch as well. Currently, she sits at a staggering 51.89% win rate across all ranks. That’s a huge win rate even if the pick rate is below 4%. Although Zac, Maokai, Trundle, and even Quinn are doing better than her in the Top lane.

The patch note changes for Illaoi seem a bit weird to me. In this article, I will explain why after showing you the exact changes she will be going under.

The specific changes Illaoi is about to receive are:

  • Tentacles now have data values that indicate they gain a 125 bonus range
  • Tentacle base damage increased from 10 – 180 to 9 – 162
  • Tentacle AD ratio reduced from 120% to 115%

The range buff on tentacles is huge. Usually, Illaoi’s tentacles can be easily avoided from being hurt even if your soul is taken, just by walking in any direction without stopping. With the increased buff that may not be possible anymore unless you get to have some form of tenacity.

The base damage reduction is very small and probably shouldn’t affect his powers much given his incredible capability to deal sustained damage with health regeneration in team fights, not to mention the tentacle range buff just means more certain damage.

Tentacle AD ratio has been 5%, which seems justified given the aforementioned buff’s potency.

The reason why these changes seem weird to me is because it feels like an overall buff, despite the champion sitting well above 51.8% of the win rate. I don’t know what the angle of balance Riot is operating at. The only thing I can think of is that, in conjunction with other changes made to other classes and items, this change will probably balance out in some way. But we’ll need to wait and see.

Patch 14.3 Release Date

These Illaoi changes will be live with patch 14.3 deployment to all the live servers on February 7, 2024.
