Epona is one of the iconic horses of the Zelda series, as this is the first horse we ever rode in a Zelda game. You can get Epona in Tears of the Kingdom too. Here is how to do it.
Horses are a big part of the new Zelda series. Generally, you have a stamina bar that you can easily deplete by running. But by using a horse, you can move faster and more freely without worrying about the stamina bar for your character. And depending on the horse, you can even boost to speed up several times.
But the Breath of the Wild is not the first time we get to ride on a horse in a Zelda game. Ocarina of Time was the first game of the Zelda series to feature the horse riding mechanic to the series. The horse we rode in that game was named Epona.
Epona can be tamed and registered at the stable in Tears of the Kingdom too. But it is not a rare spawn or anything like that. You need to fill some certain conditions to get Epona in Tears of the Kingdom. Here is how to do it.

Unlocking Epona in Tears of the Kingdom
The easiest way to get Epona in Tears of the Kingdom is if you have Epona in Breath of the Wild. If you played Breath of the Wild and have a backup save in the device, when starting Tears of the Kingdom, you will carry over all the horses from the previous game. So if you already have Epona registered as a horse in Breath of the Wild, you can just grab it from the nearest stable.
But if you don’t have Epona in Breath of the Wild, then you will need certain Amiibo to spawn the horse. Two amiibos are able to spawn Epona in Tears of the Kingdom. These are:
- Link (Twilight Princess)
- Link (Super Smash Bros.)
To get Epona, go to an open field and scan one of these two amiibo. It will spawn Epona on the field in front of you. Then you can go ahead to tame and register it at the stable. Epona has 4 stars on every stat and nothing on the Pull stat. It also starts with Max Bond being the first horse in Link’s life.
