How to Fix VALORANT Error Code 29 in 2022

A common problem plaguing the VALORANT Community when starting up their game is Error Code 29. In this article, we will be discussing what it is and how to fix it.

VALORANT is a character-based 5v5 tactical shooter game that is played online or via the internet. So, like other online games, VALORANT is also not immune to bugs, errors, and crashes. Whenever an error occurs in VALORANT, it provides an error code so you can figure out what is wrong or why you are having trouble with your game.

However, VALORANT does not actually tell you directly how to fix the errors. Rather, the client just shows you a message and an error code. Every Error Code has a numeric value ranging from 0 to 152, and each of the codes has a different meaning and reason behind the cause of the issue that you are facing.

One of the common error codes is Error Code 29. Many of you might have faced Error Code 29 without even knowing what it is, what it does, and how to fix it. So, in this article, we will be diving into detail about VALORANT Error code 29.

What is VALORANT Error Code 29?

VALORANT Error Code 29 is one of the more common errors you can encounter in VALORANT. It occurs mostly when you are just starting up the game.

Error Code 29 refers to a Network issue. To be more precise, it occurs mostly when there is a dispute between VALORANT and your Windows Firewall. It can also occur if you are running a third-party anti-virus alongside your Windows’ own protective measures.

How to Fix (A complete step-by-step guide)

Fixing Error Code 29 can sometimes get a little tricky. However, this step-by-step guide will help you to get rid of this issue.

First, it’s important to ensure that Windows Firewall recognizes and allows VALORANT to operate properly(a rather important step). Here’s how to make that happen:

  1. In the Windows search bar, type Windows Defender Firewall and click on it.
  2. Click Allow a program through the Windows firewall.
  3. Click Change Settings.
  4. Remove any current VALORANT and Riot Client entries, then add a new one with the Allow another app button.
  5. Locate C:\Riot Games\VALORANT\live\VALORANT.exe for the new firewall exceptions and click OK.
  6. On the firewall exceptions, check all boxes for VALORANT and click OK at the bottom.
  7. Repeat the above process to add an exception for our Anticheat at C:\Program Files\Riot Vanguard\vgc.exe and click OK.
  8. Once more, repeat the process to add an exception for the Launcher at C:\Riot Games\Riot Client\RiotClientServices.exe and click OK.

Additional Measures:

If the steps mentioned above do not solve your problem, you can take some additional measures that can help you eliminate Error Code 29.

  1. Make sure you are running the game as the administrator.
  2. Make sure your anti-virus program isn’t interfering with the game.
  3. Update your anti-virus settings by adding VALORANT’s applications to its list of exceptions.
    • These are the default paths for VALORANT’s applications that your anti-virus program will ask for when adding them as exceptions:
      • C:\Riot Games\VALORANT\live\VALORANT.exe
      • C:\Riot Games\Riot Client\Riot Client Services.exe
      • C:\Program Files\Riot Vanguard\vgc.exe
    • If you decide to install VALORANT elsewhere, the path will be different.
  4. As a last resort, you can also try a full reinstall, making sure to run the program as an administrator like before.

If you follow these steps carefully, your problem regarding Error Code 29 should be resolved. However, if your problem isn’t resolved after following all these steps, you can create a ticket from VALORANT Support page.
