If you are facing the infinite checking for updates in the Genshin Impact loading screen then here is how you can fix this issue.

Genshin Impact is an open world Gacha RPG that has been popular among players for almost 4 years and running. The game offers and immersive open world experience with exciting gameplay and team comps.

The game excels at providing a player friendly experience by constantly improving itself and removing bugs. While there aren’t many technical issues in the game to begin with, there is one problem that many of the player base face. And that is the ‘Checking for Updates’ issue in Genshin Impact.

This issue is caused by network traffic overload and can be fixed by rerouting server access.

How You Can Fix ‘Checking for Updates’ in Genshin Impact

When you are stuck at the ‘Checking for Updates‘ screen for more than a minute or two then you can assume that your game is unable to connect with the Genshin Impact severs. To fix this issue you can do the following:

Use A VPN

99% of the time, the ‘Checking for Updates‘ issue can be fixed if you just turn on a VPN. This is because a VPN overrides any ISP or regional restrictions applied to your device. VPN’s will have their own DNS servers and will bypass firewall restrictions due to using encrypted connections.

When you are using a VPN your Geolocation also changes, this allows you to connect on the region specific servers easily as most of the time the allotted slots for those places are open.

I recommend to turn your VPN on while the game is stuck at ‘Checking for Updates’ screen as I have sometimes faced issues when rebooting the game after turning on VPN.

There is no need to go for any fancy premium VPN. You can just opt for one of the free ones available on the internet. I have personally used Cloudflare and it makes the game run without any hitch.

Remove Genshin Impact from Your Blocked List

If the VPN didn’t fix your problem, then there is a high probability that Genshin Impact is blocked by your firewall, OS or region. Go to the firewall settings of your PC and check if there are any rules applied on Genshin Impact. Contact your ISP and see if they have any changes implied for Chinese servers.

If the issue still persists, then you should contact Hoyoverse support immediately!

Why You Are Stuck at ‘Checking for Updates’ Screen in Genshin Impact?

The primary and most of the time, the sole reason for players getting ‘Checking for Updates’ screen is, just as the game says, checking if there is any update you might need. This is the default settings for all of Hoyoverse’s applications.

As soon as you start the application, your game will try to connect to the game servers to see if there are any updates that you may need. Once the system decides you may need or not need an update then you can proceed to the game.

But if the system is unable to decide whether you need an update or not, that is when you get the ‘Checking for Updates‘ in Genshin Impact. This happens when the system can’t connect to the server or its request to join is denied.

Here are possible reasons for Checking for updates issue in Genshin Impact:

ISP or Regional Restrictions

Most of the time players get stuck on the ‘Checking for updates’ screen in Genshin because they have recently changes their ISP. Your new ISP may have block, throttle, or prioritize traffic completely differently than your previous one. This leads to problem connecting to the Genshin game servers resulting in the infinite loading screen.

Faulty DNS Issues

Sometimes, it’s your DNS settings that are to blame for the issue. Your DNS will vary depending on your region, ISP, and IP. Private DNS settings have more issues than public ones. Sometimes, ISP specialized low latency DNS can hamper the performance of Genshin Impact traffic.

Overloaded Regional Server

While this is hardly an issue, there are times when the regional server might be overloaded (especially Asia and Europe server) resulting in the ‘Checking for Updates’ glitch.

Firewall or Security Restriction

If your pc or phone firmware have recently gone through a security update or you have installed an new OS then the issue of traffic not connecting to the Genshin servers may arise.
