The coach Iansan is finally here in Genshin Impact 5.5. Is she finally be able to dethrone Bennet as the best buffer in the game?

Genshin Impact 5.5 is bringing not just the highly anticipated 5-star character Varesa, but also Iansan, a 4-star Electro polearm user. While she may not be the star of the patch, her kit offers some intriguing mechanics that could make her a valuable addition to certain teams. Do keep in mind that Hoyoverse can change the details before release.

Here’s everything we know so far about Iansan, including her abilities, ascension materials, and overall potential.

Iansan Overview

  • Element: Electro
  • Rarity: 4-Star
  • Weapon: Polearm
  • Role: Sub-DPS/Support

Iansan will be featured as a boosted 4-star character on both Varesa and Xianyun’s banners during version 5.5. Her kit seems to revolve around buffing your active characters ATK. And according to the leakers, this is identical to Bennet’s buff although there are some nuances.

Iansan’s Kit Breakdown

Normal Attack – Weighted Spike

  • Performs up to three consecutive spear strikes.
  • Charged Attack: Consumes stamina to lunge forward, dealing damage to enemies in the way.
  • Plunging Attack: Deals AoE damage upon impact.

Elemental Skill – Thunderbolt Rush

Iansan dashes forward a short distance, dealing Electro damage along the way. This ability also grants her 54 Nightsoul points and activates her Nightsoul’s Blessing state. While in this state, her next normal attack within 5 seconds will trigger Swift Stormflight, a powerful Electro stomp attack that does not consume stamina.

While in Nightsoul’s Blessing, Iansan:

  • Gains increased movement speed and jumping power.
  • Can enter Thunderbolt Rush Mode when sprinting, allowing her to move across water or liquid Phlogiston.
  • Is immune to Phlogiston-based damage while in Thunderbolt Rush Mode.

Elemental Burst – The Three Principles of Power

Iansan stomps the ground, dealing AoE Electro damage. She then summons her Kinetic Energy Scale, which follows the active character and provides different attack buffs based on her current Nightsoul points:

  • Less than 42 Nightsoul points: Attack buff scales with her Nightsoul points and ATK.
  • 42 Nightsoul points or more: Activates Ardent Support!, providing a stronger attack buff based solely on her ATK.

Additionally, the Kinetic Energy Scale tracks the distance traveled by the active character and restores Nightsoul points to Iansan based on movement every second.

Iansan’s Passive Abilities

  • Enhanced Resistance Training: After Swift Stormflight hits an enemy, Iansan gains Precise Movement for 15 seconds, increasing her ATK by 20%. Additionally, she gains extra Nightsoul points when recovering them through the Kinetic Energy Scale.
  • Caloric Balancing Plan: While in an area with Phlogiston Mechanics, Iansan restores 10 Phlogiston when levels drop below 50% (cooldown: 10 seconds).
  • Kinetic Energy Gradient Test: When a party member triggers a Nightsoul Burst, Iansan gains Warming Up, which causes her to heal the active character for 60% of her ATK whenever she restores Nightsoul points.
  • Night Realm’s Gift: Hard Work and Drive: When Iansan runs out of Nightsoul points while in Nightsoul’s Blessing, she begins using Phlogiston instead. While in Phlogiston Mechanics areas, she can use Nightsoul Transmission, allowing her to enter Nightsoul’s Blessing mid-air.

Iansan’s Constellations

At first glance it is quite clear that Iansan’s kit is missing something at C0, her buff duration and night soul regeneration. That all changes as we include constellations, especially her C4.

  • Increased attack scaling for her buffs.
  • Additional Nightsoul point regeneration.
  • Enhanced Thunderbolt Rush Mode, allowing for better movement capabilities.
  • Increased energy regeneration when buffing allies.

Is Iansan Worth Pulling?

While it’s too early to make a final judgment, Iansan’s mobility-focused kit makes her unique among polearm users. Her ability to traverse terrain and buff allies suggests she might be a niche pick rather than a meta-breaking character. If you enjoy movement-heavy gameplay or need an Electro sub-DPS, she could be a fun addition to your team!

I’ll be providing a more in-depth guide once she officially releases in version 5.5. Stay tuned!

Final Thoughts

Iansan may not be the flashiest 4-star, but her high-speed mobility and party-wide buffs make her an interesting choice. If her buffs stack well with existing teams, she could find a place in teams that rely on electro reactions and movement-based gameplay. Whether you pull for her or not, she’s definitely an exciting addition to Genshin Impact’s growing roster!
