Varesa is set to be the newest 5-star joining Genshin Impact 5.5. Here’s everything you need to know about this Electro plunge DPS!
Genshin Impact 5.5 is shaping up to be an exciting patch with Varesa bringing a fresh take on Catalyst gameplay. As an Electro unit that thrives on plunge attacks, she has a unique kit that sets her apart from other Catalyst users. But how strong will she be? Will she shake up the meta, or is she another niche pick? Let’s break it all down.
Do keep in mind that all of this information comes from leaks and Beta testers. None of this is official and is subject to change before the final release.
Varesa Kit Breakdown

Normal and Charged Attacks
Varesa’s basic attack combo consists of up to three consecutive Electro-infused strikes. However, the key to her kit lies in her Charged Attack, which propels her into the air and primes her for a Plunging Attack. This attack consumes stamina and applies Electro damage with her special “Nightsoul’s Blessing” property.
- Plunge Attack: Deals AoE Electro damage upon landing. When hitting an enemy, she gains 25 Nightsoul points.
- Fiery Passion: Once her Nightsoul points reach 40, she enters a state that enhances all of her attacks and resets her Elemental Skill cooldown.
Elemental Skill
Varesa’s skill comes with both Tap and Hold mechanics:
- Tap: A quick dash forward that deals Electro damage and grants 20 Nightsoul points.
- Hold: Puts her into Rapid Advance Mode, consuming Nightsoul points to increase her speed and resistance to interruption. This allows for better overworld mobility and traversal.
This ability is crucial for her kit, as it sets up her Charged Attack > Plunge combo and lets her generate Nightsoul points quickly.
Elemental Burst
Varesa’s Burst has two versions:
- Base Burst: A massive AoE Electro attack that restores all Nightsoul points and triggers Fiery Passion.
- Apex Drive Mode: If used after Fiery Passion, it becomes a special low-cost Burst (30 Energy, no animation) that deals instant AoE damage while maintaining her enhanced state.
Playstyle
While her playstyle may seem complicated at first glance it is quite simple. You just need to do skill> charge attack> plunge attack over and over. You will have to put in your burst and special burst in between but the majority of the damage will come from the mentioned combo.
Ascension and Constellations
- A1 Passive: Boosts her Plunge Attack damage by 150%.
- A4 Passive: Grants up to 40% ATK when Nightsoul points are fully charged.
Her C1 buffs her Plunge Attack further by increasing ATK%, while C2 ensures that after her combo, she always gets a special Burst with an extra 11.5 Energy. Her C4 and C6 improve her energy regeneration and crit stats, making her a strong investment for players who want to maximize her potential.
Best Weapons and Artifacts
- Signature Weapon: Vivid Notions (674 Base ATK, 44.1% CRIT DMG, boosts ATK and Plunge CRIT DMG up to 68%)
- Best 5-star options: Kagura’s Verity, Lost Prayers to the Sacred Winds
- Best 4-star option: The Widsith
Her best artifact set is the new 5.5 set, Long Night’s Oath, designed to optimize her plunge-heavy playstyle. You can learn more about the artifacts from here: Genshin Impact Leaks New Artifact Details!!! Skirk Gameplay Soon?
Final Thoughts
The overall Varesa Kit is shaping up to be a high-risk, high-reward option. She excels in sustained damage output. Her kit rewards skillful execution, and while she has some energy concerns, her constellations and passives mitigate these issues. If you enjoy characters with dynamic, movement-based gameplay, she might be worth pulling for!
I will be providing a complete breakdown and a proper guide when she releases officially.
