After securing a strong 3-1 win against w7m, G2 Esports has been crowned the Six Invitational 2023 Champions!
After four years of constant struggle, G2 Esports has once again reached the top of Siege esports. With Fabian “Fabian” Hällsten at the helm, the team made a huge comeback from the lackluster results after 2019, where G2 failed to win a single Major tournament.
However, with Six Invitational returning to Montreal in 2023, everything seemed to have clicked for G2’s roster just in time.
G2 made some important changes just before SI, replacing the star player of ‘CTZN’ with ‘Benjamaster,’ a transfer that will go down in history as one of the best for G2. The youngster broke several records in this SI, and that too after joining this team just over a month ago.
During the second map of the grand final, he surpassed the previous record for the highest number of kills in a single Six Invitational, ultimately achieving a total of 323 kills. Furthermore, he was only two kills away from breaking the record for the most kills in a single match at a Six Invitational during the grand final.
While the Grand Finals was not completely one-sided, G2 clearly seemed to have the upper hand from the start. w7m Esports managed to win their map pick of Clubhouse with a 7-5 scoreline, but it was all G2 following that. The European team secured the next three map wins, 7-2 on Bank and 7-4 on Kafe, and a tight 8-6 victory on Oregon to reach the finish line.
With this win, Fabian becomes the only person to lift the Six Invitational Hammer thrice, two times as a player and now as a coach, cementing his already stacked legacy further as one of the greatest in Rainbow Six Esports.
