Riot is adding Fist Bumps for better bonding between teammates in League of Legends.
The upcoming League of Legends season 2024 is packed with surprising changes. Some of these changes are huge. For example, the big changes in the map, replacing Mythical Items, Baron changes, Rift Herald changes, etc, are on the more visible side of the spectrum.
On the other side, little quality of life changes, such as adding dynamic music and infernal cinders, are not as talked about. Yet, they are no less important when it comes to enhancing the overall experience of the new season.
One such little but impactful change is the addition of Fist Bumps. This is a new feature that intends to boost the morale of the team after a good play.
In this article, I shall be sharing some of my thoughts as I explain it more.
Bond with Team using Fist Bumps
The relationship between team members when playing solo is not the sweetest in League of Legends game. Though the sour interactions are pretty common in multiplayer games, League of Legends is like the face of it.
Most communication done in League of Legends is sort of ‘transactional.’ By that, I mean they are strictly related to game plans. You communicate because you want your team to perform well so you can win the match.
Human social interaction is little to non-existent. Yes, occasionally, some people might write ‘nice try’ and ‘wp,’ but that’s just about it.
With the introduction of Fist Bumps, Riot desires that players should be encouraged more to work as a social unit. The team should feel like they have each others’ backs and have some baseline of mutual care and respect.
This interactive emote can be activated when you use a fist bump, and at least one of your teammates also responds with the emote. Doing so will have a small animation of the teammates’ fist bumps.
So it’s possible to get up to 5-men fist bumps if the whole squad responds. They chose the ‘fist’ for this because, coincidentally, it’s also Riot’s logo. They definitely had thought of these positive and uplifting aspects while creating the logo a decade ago.
As the emote activates, you can also see some fireworks emerging from the bumped fists.
I think this is a good little addition to the game. It can go a long way in uplifting the players’ moods when they are going through a bad time in the match or celebrating after winning big team fights or objectives.
When Can I Use The Fist Bump Emote?
As with all the other changes of Preseason 2024, this feature will be live from Patch 14.1, set to release in early January 2024.
