Bungie is temporarily disabling Howl of the Storm in Destiny 2 ahead of the Monument of Triumph update, following the discovery of a bug that allowed players to deal extreme damage to bosses. The issue appears to involve the Titan Aspect being combined with Hunterโ€™s Golden Gun, creating a setup that could heavily damage or nearly one-shot raid bosses under the right conditions.

With Monument of Triumph set to arrive as one of the most important updates in Destiny 2 history, Bungie clearly wants to avoid a situation where returning endgame activities are broken on day one. The update is expected to bring players back to several major activities, including Pantheon, which makes boss balance especially important.

Bungie Is Disabling Howl of the Storm

According to Bungie, the team has seen videos of players using Howl of the Storm alongside Golden Gun to take down bosses far faster than intended. While Destiny 2 players are no strangers to wild damage strategies, this one seems to have crossed the line from clever buildcrafting into a bug that could damage the experience for everyone.

Howl of the Storm is a Titan Stasis Aspect that lets players create a freezing wave by sliding and activating their charged melee. In normal gameplay, it is used for crowd control, freezing enemies, and setting up Stasis interactions. However, the current bug appears to make it interact with certain damage setups in a way that Bungie did not intend.

Monument of Triumph Makes This Bug a Bigger Problem

The timing matters here. Monument of Triumph is not just a small patch or routine seasonal refresh. It is being positioned as a major celebration of Destiny 2, bringing back long-term goals, rewards, and endgame-focused content for players to chase.

Pantheon is also part of the update, which means raid bosses are going to be a major focus for a lot of players. If a bug allows bosses to be melted almost instantly, it would completely undercut the challenge and excitement of those activities.

Bungie disabling Howl of the Storm may be frustrating for Titan mains, but it is also a pretty understandable call. Letting the bug stay live during a major update would likely create a messy launch, especially with players rushing into Pantheon and other high-level content.

How Long Will Howl of the Storm Be Disabled?

Bungie has not given a specific return date for Howl of the Storm yet. The ability is being disabled temporarily, with a fix planned for the future.

It is not ideal, but it is better than having a broken interaction dominate the update and potentially force Bungie into emergency fixes after launch.

Destiny 2 Players Are Heading Into a Major Final Update

Monument of Triumph carries extra weight because Bungie has already confirmed Destiny 2 will no longer receive planned live-service content updates after Update 9.7.0. That makes this launch feel like a major turning point for the game and its community.

Because of that, Bungie likely wants the update to land as cleanly as possible. A boss melting exploit tied to Howl of the Storm would have been a huge distraction, especially during what is supposed to be a celebratory sendoff for years of Destiny 2 content.

The decision to disable the Aspect may not be popular with everyone, but it shows Bungie is trying to protect the integrity of the update before players jump in.

Bungie Is Playing It Safe Before Monument of Triumph

Howl of the Storm being disabled is another reminder of how quickly Destiny 2โ€™s sandbox can break when abilities, Aspects, and supers interact in unexpected ways. Sometimes those interactions create fun new metas. Other times, they create bugs that can trivialize some of the hardest content in the game.

This time, Bungie is choosing to act early. With Monument of Triumph launching on June 9, players should prepare for Howl of the Storm to be unavailable at the start of the update. Titan Stasis users may need to experiment with different setups, while raid teams heading into Pantheon should expect Bungie to keep a close eye on any other broken damage strategies that appear after launch.
